Hi all. I recently purchased a set of 14" tilt back arms for my Supersonic 22 combo. The arms come with no advice as to where the holes should be drilled, however I did contact Fender for a some advice. The response I received was "Unfortunately since adding legs to this amp would be considered a modification (being that it is not designed to accept them without modifying) I cannot offer any support or advice as to where you should install them. I would recommend contacting a service center for assistance."

Not really helpful as I thought some basic advice may have been on offer due to the arms being a Fender product and not produced by a third party.

Anyway ....... Has anyone done this installation to the Supersonic 22 Combo?

Cheers, Graeme :D

This is an installation diagram I developed for installing 14-inch tilt-back legs on a Deluxe Reverb, similar in size to a Supersonic 22 combo......

It's not drawn to scale but the measurements are accurate and may prove useful for your purpose. The location for the leg hardware is shown in blue while the stops are marked in red. If you need the dimensions in metric units you'll have to convert them yourself.

Be sure you get the order of precedence for the leg hardware correct.

The screw goes through the leg, then a flat washer, and through the hole in the side of the cabinet. On the inside, a flat washer, the lock washer, the remaining flat washer, and finally the lock nut. Do not over tighten lest you crush the wood panel.

I just did this, with 14" legs. However, the amp seems to tilt too far back... the problem is, in order to get less of a tilt, the legs contact the lower corners/screws when trying to fold them in for storage. To mount the legs high enough to clear the corners/screws, the amp is tilted too far back, imo.

And if you move the legs BACK on the amp side, to lessen the tilt, then, when folded, the legs will not fully be on the sides of the amp- they stick out. I took many measurements, and messed with positioning for a long time before figuring out the location that would give me minimum tilt (and I say minimum because the tilt is so extreme, or it seems so to me).

Unfortunately, getting longer legs doesn't help either, as long as you mount the legs high enough to clear the corner/screws, it tilts back too much. The tilt wouldn't be excessive on a SMALL stage, where the amp is basically right behind you and you need it pointed up at your head to hear yourself, but that's the only situation I can see it being useful in.

Maybe I need to mount them lower, but then try to bend them out a little, to clear the corner/screw at the bottom? That seems to be what's going on in this picture (the legs were so tight to the side of my amp, it was a bit of a hassle to get them around the corner/screws, had I mounted them that low)...

I'll save the narrative; so here's what I did. My 2006 Blues Deluxe sits 18" high, just for reference with other amps. I used the 14" legs. I took the back panel off so I could be sure of no interference while drilling and mounting. All measurements taken from the top and back: Pivot point is 6 1/4" down and 2" in, stop is 5" down and 4 1/4" in. I used the through bolt for the pivot and the @3/4" screw for the stop. With the pivot: I used 2 flat washers between the leg and amp, so no scuffing when it rotates, a flat washer and the nylock nut on the inside. No need for the lock washer if using a nylock.

This is the angle I personally prefer, more like most elevated amp stands that I have used or own. Any more than this and it's too much sound on stage and not enough going forward, in my experience anyhow. I typically am positioned about 4-6' in front of my amp in most of the places I play. I usually do not mic my amp unless it's an outdoor gig or there's a soundman.

If anyone can tell me how to post a picture, I'd be more than happy to.

Thanks for bumping this... I've considered adding legs to my Blues Junior and this is helpful.
