Hi,

Tried switching on guitar amp last night, and nothing (worked fine yesterday, nothing has changed/happened).

The amp fuse next to the power switch looks intact, and I've tried swapping fuse on the plug and nothing.

What else do I need to check for?

Also, what fuse rating is supposed to be in the plug socket? It's 5amp currently (I'm in the UK)

Check all fuses , there are 3 fuses , one on the cord , for 240 v it is a 1A ( UK )

Two fuses are inside the amp , one 7A, 250 volts for heater and one 250 ma, 250 volts for power supply .

Replace by same type ,

You must check fuses with meter not with your eyes.

+1

Then you need to determine what caused the fuse to blow.

Perhaps he's returned it to the store for a refund.

That seems to be a pretty common phenomena these days......

Sorry for the tardy response, my wife is 39 weeks pregnant and guitar playing takes a backseat as does fiddling with amps :)

Anyway, the amp was fine. Where I'd moved it to a different place in my house, I'd pushed the amp back under a desk when not in use. This had caused the amp fuse (little black plastic protruding near the power plug) to get nudged, and it stopped the amp from turning on.

After a bit of a wiggle, it works fine again.

Panic over, but worth noting for all you Excelsior owners out there.

I guess that's what happens when you get the power part of the amp near the floor ;)

Best of luck with forthcoming fatherhood......I hope everything works out as well as your amp situation.
