When I switch from the overdrive channel to the clean channel of my Blues Deluxe RI, there is a quick spike in volume. It doesn't happen all the time though (1 out of 5 times I'd say). My settings are very moderate. The OD is set to about 4 with the master volume set to 1.5 to 2. The clean channel is set to about 2 as well. There is also sometimes a "smack" of reverb when this spike happens as well and occasionally when I turn the standby switch on. My reverb is set to about 4 or 5. My signal path is my guitar straight into the amp, no pedals or anything running into the effects loop. I'm not sure if this fact matters or not, but it's been about 6 months since I played with the amp. Any ideas?

Thanks!

My 1st thought is..it's a tube issue. I have a 2011 Blues Tweed Deluxe Reissue and a 2002 Hot Rod Deville 212 and the #1 most occurring issue with either of these amps, is getting reliable lasting tubes. I like the Groove tubes and Electro Harmonix...my understanding is, that many of these are produced in the same place and yet, they get marked with different brand labels

Simply put, you just never know with tubes..they are sounding good one day and then they just go down without having lasted very long.

Try taking the tubes out and re-seating them carefully. My next move would be a New set of Power and pre-amp tubes. It never hurts to have extra tubes on hand even it that doesn't solve your problem...because, eventually you will need new tubes.

Do you mean that, you set the clean channel volume to where you like it, then you switch to the other channel and set it's volume where you like it, then when you switch back to the clean channel the volume spikes up and then goes back to where you originally set it?
And that this happens about 1 in 5 times?

If so, then you should just return that amp as defective and get a new one, if it's still within the return time frame.
It should NOT function in that manner.
It it's past the time to return it, then contact Fender and get the amp to a tech to fix it.

If you have your clean volume set and you then switch to the other channel and set it too, when you switch back to the clean channel it's volume should be where you set it.
Your amp is like my HR DLX3 where we have individual volume controls for each channel.

Thanks Rverb. I'll keep this is mind. Unfortunately, I'd like to be able to replace the tubes myself to save some dough, but I don't have the knowledge.

Yes, that is correct. My amp was bought in 2007 so it's past the warranty. I continued experimenting with it the other day. Another weird thing happened. I turned the clean volume all the way down to zero. There was still an audible signal coming out from the speaker when I played! I'd say it was as if the volume control was on .05. I'm thinking now, maybe I have an issue with the amps volume control pot. Also, when I hooked up my POD HD300 to the front of it, and switched between the clean and dirty channels of the amp like before, the volume spikes pretty much disappeared. My next experiment is to turn both channel volumes up higher and see how it reacts. But, I need to wait until the neighbors are away.

Had a chance to crank my BDRI and it seems ok. Must have been an intermittent thing or something is starting to go and was just having a bad day. I cranked the clean and OD channels anywhere from 3 to 6, switched back and forth often between them while playing etc., and there was no noticeable increase in the volume like before. I also used the 2nd input and switched between my Les Paul and Strat. With the Strat (all single coils) though, the switching was a bit noisier, just a slight pop, nothing too objectionable I guess.

Just an after-the-fact guess. Since the amp set idle for 6 months, perhaps there was oxidation or dirt within one or both of the volume pots, or maybe the 'drive' one also. If it recurs, I'd try cleaning the pots with deox. spray.

My BDRI's pots will go 'intermittent' on me if I don't use it for a while.
