Correct.

RoHS-compliant solder "does not play well with others".

I have the EXACT same story. Tried to install a Fromel kit on a Hour Rod Deluxe III as my first mod, ever. Watched a bunch of YouTube and thought if I was careful I could do it.

Ka-blooie ! No sound, no joy.
Then made a tester to use with a tone generator. Got as far as the first resistor - no output.

What a cluster-*#¢ !!

Just got it back from an excellent repair shop. Which would have done it for me for 100 bucks.

But I was so smart, thought I could do it with zero experience.
Repairing all the mistakes and mess I made cost me $500.

That's my story. Painful lesson.

Hope you got help to get yours working.
