Was poking around online and noticed a change at Fender.com regarding price. Previously Fender would list am MSRP, but all retailers would offer a street price well below the MSRP. As an example, the Champion 100 would appear at Fender.com with an MSRP of $419, but could be found anywhere at the street price of $299. Fender now lists the Champion 100 at $299 though a quick check at a couple of the big retailers show this amp as "discounted $120 to $299". Similar list price changes reflecting the street price is found on the Mustang line. Muscian's Friend lists the MIV V2 as discounted $200 to $499 with Fender.com saying list is in fact $499.

The retailers need to update their sites, but I am sure it will take a long time for the bogus discounts to vanish from the retailers' marketing.

Interesting change in pricing strategy. Personally, I always thought the MSRP vs. Street price was misleading. Kinda glad to see it straightened out.

The manufacturers and retailers all need to come to grips with the new reality and price their products accordingly. With new "e-tailers" popping up on the web literally every day, it's now a cutthroat market with buyers driving the bus. Brick-and-mortar guitar shops are increasingly going the way of bi-weekly milk deliveries from the local dairy and family doctors who make house calls. Any stores who expect to keep the wolf at bay need to wake up and smell the cappuccino. And companies building guitars, amps, and the like ignore this only at their own peril.

Gibson started doing this as well right around the end of 2013.
For 2014 the prices no longer listed their very high "MSRP".

Glad to see the change. I can't believe Fender or retailers were fooling anyone with the so-called "discount" off the MSRP.
