Hi Guys,

I'm new here, and I was hoping you could help me out. I just picked up a used Ultimate Chorus (1990s) and I'm having a few issues with it. I've read a few other posts, which helped, but I'm still in need of advice.

The clean tone sounds great, even with the junk pickups on the guitar I have. But after a bit(5 mins) the amp starts to cut out on and off. From readings the other posts I'm thinking maybe input jack? Or possibly a heat issue?

The other issue is I have no distortion whatsoever on the drive channel, even with the gain and volume cranked. The mid-boost works, but no distortion. Bad solder?

If possible I'd like to fix this myself, I'm new to amp repairs/diagnostics but I'm fairly familiar with electrical components and circuitry.

Any advice would be appreciated!! Thanks

Taylor

welcome to the 1990's Ultimate Chorus owners club! OK I think there are just the two of us, so organizing meetings should be easy ....

Seriously though, my Ultimate Chorus has been absolutely bulletproof, it seems like the one you acquired might have been through the trenches.

I'm not much help with the 'fixing' side of things but I can offer this ... the drive channel (as far as I'm concerned) is pretty much useless on the amp. You'd be much better off sticking a Tubescreamer or the pedal of your choice on the clean channel. Here's a recording of my Ultimate with a TS9 (guitar was an Epiphone Lucille):

Look at the printed circuit side , some copper printed circuit may be burn , need new solder.

If you run a cord from effects send to return does the dirt channel work? When it starts to cut out give the amp a good tap on top does it work again?

Ok, so I tried running a chord through from the effects send to return and got nothing. I've heard the distortion on this isn't that great to begin with on this amp and I was planing to use a pedal anyway, but it's still kind of let down.....Craigslist. Should've known lol. Still can't complain about the clean channel though

Do you have the foot switch? does the led light change when you turn distortion on? Other wise I would check the op IC chip I think you should have +16VDC and+16VDC on pin 4 and 8
