I've worked my new baby for 4 three hour rehearsals this past week. The heat coming off the back is pretty good. My HR DeVille - though less tubes - doesn't get anywhere near this hot. Is this just a no big deal thang??

Me thinks I'm going to install a small fan inside the cab pointing upwards at the tubes. Has anyone done this and hard wired it into the chassis? I'm thinking of a computer hard drive type of cooling fan with a very low power draw. OR, should I just live with it.

Again, I don't know how I could've done without a Super all these decades. My Marshall heads are all on the backburner as is the DeVille. Sweet spot (with my BurstBucker 1&2 equipped LP Std and SD Seth Lovers in my SG Std) is 3.5 - 4. For soloing, I kick in the TS9 at minimal settings. Gotta say though, I don't enjoy my Firebird V with this amp. But, the grand prize meat cookie goes to the combination of my Seth Lover equipped ES-335 and this Super :D :D :D :!:

It's a "no big deal thang".

Your Super Reverb is tube-rectified, which accounts for the substantial increase in heat in comparison with a HRD. Its additional bottles driving the reverb and trem provide yet more warmth although to a lesser extent than the GZ34.

+1 The Super is easily one of the best amps Fender ever created and nothing sounds like it. My Vintage '65 BFSR has a sweet spot too, but for my Strat...right around 4 to 4.5. The Super does not want for high end and brightness which maybe why the Firebird with the mini humbuckers is not as much to your liking. Try backing down the Treble and turn off the bright switch to tame some of those highs and see if that doesn't get your firebird back into your favor. Enjoy your new amp.

+1!

Variable tone controls......they're there for a reason.
