I drooled over the specs, reviews, and You Tube videos on the SS100 Head only to have it disappear off the market before I could order one. Fender must have had too many problems with such a complicated design. I know the SS 22 and 60 amps don't have all those bells and whistles, but have seen good and bad reports, though not as many.

The Mustang Series has an awesome model of the Burn Channel in the SS amps. And it does not have the hissing issue that I hear so much about. I love the real Super Sonic sounds I've heard online. Classic Fender AB763 clean, plus Bassman, plus Burn. A great concept, but how is their execution of the concept?

My real question is, has Fender updated/changed anything to improve the hissing issue? Have they cheapened parts and/or production values that you know of? Originally these were designed for the "pro" guitarist, i.e. "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin", built better than most of the other 'stuff' they make...hm-m-m-m! If you own or have owned a SS60 Head or Combo, I'd like your input. Thanks.

I don't own one (YET!), but I absolutely love the tone from the SS60 combo! I use it to demo guitars at one of my favorite stores. The Vibroluxe/bassman clean channel is awesome! How incredibly convenient- to get both the blackface AND tweed sounds in one amp.

I didn't notice any out of the ordinary hissing, but I haven't wound the gains up either.

Go try one out for yourself! They sound fantastic, and dear God, they're LOUD!

I live in the area of John Day, OR. The nearest GC is in Boise, Id, 180 mi away. I've done biz there and in Medford, OR, 350 mi away. It's a long haul to just sit down and noodle on a bunch of amps, so I want to get as much info beforehand as possible :)

A guy I roomed with while in the service was from John Day. Last name of Behrens. He was a trucker at heart and wanted to haul logs when he left the Air Force. I often wonder if he ever made it......

Probably a relative (my ex-roomie was Tim) since it's not a very common surname.
