I have a Twin Reverb reissue. I've recently been turning it up to 10 on the volume and rocking out. I never see anyone talk about how great these amps sound flat out, but wow! This sounds incredible. The overdriven quality is unique and bone-crushing. The speakers are also flubbing out a bit to give it a nice fuzz-splat quality. It sounds exactly like Joe Perry's tone on Sweet Emotion. So much so that I started playing that song, for the first time ever, when I heard the sound. I didn't even now how to play it, but I just did, automatically, when I heard the sound.

It should be said that in order to get the amp to this level of nirvana, I am playing guitars with pretty hot pickups. A strat with a lace sensor blue/silver/red combo slams the front end with an extremly hot signal. Regular strat pickups don't really get it to overdrive much. A Gibson Les Paul Custom also completely rocked my face off, with a little more scooped mid quality tone. Also, I'm not using any other distortion or booster to make this sound, but a MXR micro amp could probably take those weak strat tones and send them over the edge.

It should also be said that the amp is extremely bright at this level as to be nauseating. In order to be in the same room with it I have turned the treble down to zero. With that done, viola! Tonal bliss. Roll back on the guitar volume slightly and decrease pick attack and it sounds just like it does with the amp volume on 4.

I just wanted to come on here and say this because I've heard so much praise for other Fenders like the Deluxe Reverb and how awesome it sounds cranked but no one ever talks about the Twin overdriven. Yes, it will overdrive and yes, it sounds awesome (but you must turn all the treble down or you will liquify your eardrums).

I can't see how you stand in the same room with it very long with the volume on 10 without ear plugs.
Man that amp is freaking load with the volume just on 5, I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like on 10.

The thing I've noticed is that the amp is really about as loud as it's going to get once you get to around 5 on the volume. From 5 to 10 the difference in decibles is not really that much but it does get more distorted.

I concur,

My SuperSonic Twin reaches about 3,5 on volume and it is really loud, and from there to 10 it just gets more overdrive. 100 watts is bearable in a large double room using the full length guitar cable to stay as far away as possible. My amp however doesn't get too much more brighter than on lower volumes, but that may have more to do with using 4ohm setting compared to 16ohms, or the fact that we have different amps altogether.

I am also glad to hear you are exploring the full range of your amp, just look after your ears.

Look at tube brand and Output tube bias

I just had it serviced and retubed. I'm not saying it is quiet by any means. It is extremely loud, but it sounds awesome. The room I'm playing it in has high vaulted ceilings that might contribute to dispursing the sound a bit.

It might be an aural illusion that the amp is brighter when it's louder since those treble frequencies are the ones that cause the ear pain and fatigue at high volume. Turning the treble down makes the full volume onslaught bearable.

If you think of it in terms of drums, the entire kit is really loud when played by a heavy handed drummer, but it's those #$%& cymbals that really drill a hole through your eardrums.

The 68 twin sounds pretty dam good pushed with a Soul Food pedal/ SG guitar, these are not bright either I love this amp:) then I use the Bogner red/blue for my main dirt. Strat cleans are crazy good!

When I had my 76 Twin, I found around 8 on the volume knob to be the "sweet spot" with single coils and 6 for Humbucker pups. That was only in larger venues though and not for rehearsals. Never really liked it too much flat out. Be aware you will eat up some tubes running it flat out with newer production tubes.

I do believe this is the first time in my life I ever heard someone praise the sound of a farting speaker. Nevertheless, different strokes for different folks. Glad you're happy with it. Enjoy!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I thought speaker breakup was a coveted sound for many people. Either way, it sounds great to me. Not really overdrive, but more fuzz as the speaker rattles around.
