57 Tweed Twin Re issue- When was it discontinued and why?

I just noticed that it is no longer offered, is that so it does not compete with the EC line?

Thanks

It was replaced with the EC line. I can't imagine they were selling super well because of their price point. Equal or better clones on the market for hundreds less.

Think "Victoria Amps".

Yep. I would choose a Victoria over any current Fender amp even Fender's custom shop. Victoria has top notch components and materials, skilled, caring people putting them together and they back them with a Lifetime Warranty. That's confidence. Nuff said.

It's ironic when a small boutique amp company can "out-Fender" Fender.

*Someone* should wake up and smell the Starbuck's.

I agree, my 2 cents is that I think Fender has made a rod for it's back in pandering too much to the "cheap and disposable" market for a long time now, in doing so they have probably compromised a lot of what they stood for over the years and recently also trying to recapture some of the "built for quality" market they once owned. Now when they attempt a "built for quality" product, it comes across as a bit of a half-hearted attempt when compared to the lifetime warrantied identical (blatant Fender copies) products from the likes of Victoria, etc. As Supro said, a Lifetime warranty speaks volumes for product confidence and commitment to quality.

The other edge to the sword is it seems Fender in taking this approach has kind of "programmed" and created a mindset in their customers to expect cheaper now, to the point where even when they do produce a real gem of a product and try to charge accordingly, in line with what we should reasonably expect to pay today for hand-wiring labour, decent wages, quality components, etc, customers will whine about the cost, are often suspicious of "paying for the Fender name" and seemingly avoid the product. So Fender after a time of no doubt disappointing sales, pulls the product from the lineup.

I'm probably way off here and don't even live in the same country so may not have a clue.

I think you've pounded that 12-penny nail squarely on the head, Snowy.

As always Snowy, Well said.
Instead of adding "cool" stuff, how about quality "reliable" stuff.
Even building amps in Mexico, Korea or China, shouldn't be used as an excuse. There is an amp company called VHT who makes reasonably priced, hand-wired made in America tube amps. You can get their Lead 40 for around $700. It can be done. Maybe not for a bozillion bucks in profit, but it can be done. I've had the chance to play several VHT amps and I think they blow the HRD series right out of the water. They seem to be solid, reliable amps. I think in the beginning they were built in Korea, but now they claim to build them in the Bay Area.

+1000

"Back in the day", new Fender amps came with a one-year warranty.

ONE......STEENKING......YEAR.

PERIOD!

The majority of those amps often played completely trouble-free for ten or even fifteen years without need for so much as replacing a tube.

Contrast that with the situation today, with gear built so shoddily that it can't even survive the boat ride from China or Malaysia or a bumpy ride from the dealer to a new owner's home in the trunk of a car.

FWIW, I've been gigging regularly with my Mustang III v1 for a little over 2 years (lots of car travel) and have not experienced a single problem.

I never had to use the one year warranty, ever. Most times it was at least twenty five years before it even went in for maintenance. My HRDlx with the 5 year warranty saw the shop four times in the first six months. I had component and solder joint failures. Most times it dumped right on stage. This is why I'm gun shy about new Fender amps. Comparing the reliability of a solid state amp to a tube amp is apples and oranges. I have a Pignose from 1972 that has been dropped down stairs and abused in every possible way and it still works. I humped my 76 Twin in and out of my car countless times and it took 35 years to see a shop. My HRDlx saw about a dozen gigs.

Nor I. We just took a Fender amp for granted that it would always work. Like a Kenmore refrigerator or a '65 Impala or a Colt pistol. And like those products, the Fender amp always did. The real Fender amps anyway......

Along the same lines, why did Betamax lose out to VHS?

Maybe for you. I usually get rid of crap that's just good enough. My Hrdlx was proof of that. Got sucked into that because I trusted a company I dealt with for over forty years. Once bitten twice shy especially where additional income is concerned.

Mediocre gear only exists because people buy it. Usually because nobody wants to pay for quality stuff or save a bit longer. It's called setteling. I've done it myself with some of my photography gear.
