so I'm guessing it's probably the tubes? I'm not experienced with tube amps unfortunately

It's a fender blues junior... took a pretty significant fall. Now you have to turn the volume WAY up just to hear it at all, and it's pretty useless because of the horrible fuzzy noise

I'm guessing it's most likely the tubes, right? Anyone else have experience? I'm dreading that it's some sort of wiring problem

If you think its tubes, has anyone had experience buying used tubes just to save a quick buck? I just want some use out of this thing

thanks guys

I guess I was mostly just curious if being moved abruptly from a fall whilst still connected can kill a tube?

I know light bulbs screw up when their filaments inside screw up so that would make sense but I'm curious to see if anyone has had a problem like this after an amp falling

If one tube went out, would it screw up the whole amp's functioning?

Maybe a tube or tubes came unseated from the fall. Make sure all of the tubes are fully seated before ordering new ones.

Another unlikely possibility is that the amp fell on a volume knob and now that is damaged and not working correctly, but I would go with tubes as the primary cause.

Like the other folks said, check ALL connections before buying anything. Look for broken leads, bent tube pins, tweaked RCA connections. If there was damage to the chassis, you may need to pull it out of the cab. Look for broken leads, crack solder points, shorts.

If you've ruled out any physical and mechanical damage, swap in one good 12AX7 into the small signal tube sockets, one-by-one. I sincerely doubt you ruined the internal guts of a tube. These thing are made quite a bit tougher than most ppl think.

Look at the output tubes and rectifier (if it is a tube type). If any of these are plopped onto a hard surface, while at operating temperature, you may have knocked the grids or plates out of alignment. I highly doubt this with any well made output tube or rectifier. Esp mil spec US or Russian made tubes. Good EL84's (I believe this is what your amp uses) are very well made tubes.

Good luck! Keep us posted.

That is one advantage of the SS amps, it is very difficult to break transistors.

:D I'm not sure my Mustang amp would fare so well. The Ultimate Chorus is built like a tank (still have it). I always said if it ever took an unfortunate tumble down a flight of stairs, it would probably still work.
