Okay so I have a Twin Reverb Reissue I bought used of eBay for about $700. I love the sound of the amp but I'm constantly putting it in the shop. As a matter of fact it's in the shop now. This is it's 3rd time being in the shop and I've only owned the amp about a year and a half. I know the owner of my local music shop fairly well and he said if I would like he would give me an even trade on a Hot Rod Deluxe. The Twin is very heavy and usually a hassle to carry around and I like the size and weight of the HRD. I play traditional country so I also like a good bit of headroom. Should I swap my twin for the HRD?

For traditional country, you might have better luck with a Deluxe Reverb re-issue -- have you tried one?

I have not tried one but in the band I play in, we don't mic our amps so 22w just won't be enough plus I can't fork out the money for a DRRI

Go with the Hot Rod Deluxe III if you are buying brand new! It should give you the headroom you're looking for since the 22 watt DRRI won't be enough considering the fact you don't mic the amps at all. I'm looking at this as if I were in your position! One other thing,...I myself would NEVER even consider buying a used amp,...especially off ebay,...but that just me! If it were me,...I'd swap the heavy troublesome Twin for the Hot Rod Deluxe!

I believe I will go with HRD. For the money I have in the Twin, I believe it's a fair trade. I'll get the HRD for now and later down the line maybe a new Silverface Twin.

For around the same money, I'd go with a used Silverface Twin. I ran the snot out of mine for over 30 years and never had an issue with it. As for 22 watts not being enough, most of my amps now are 20 watts or less and work great in some decent sized clubs. I usually run two 112 cabs. I like to mic my amps in bigger places. It keeps the stage volume under control. I wouldn't swap a Twin for a Hrd anything. That's just me though. YMMV

Sounds like an excellent idea to me. You can offload the Twin and get something for it and not feel like you're taking advantage of anybody. HR Deluxe is a good amp and a new one would have a warranty.

+1,...and I might also add that another amp you may want to look at and consider would be the Blues Deluxe Reissue,...same series as the Hot Rod Deluxe. I have the newest version of the HRD and it's the Version(or Mark)III,...and I am quite happy with it. The BDRI,...however,...has a warmer tone than the HRDlx,...I damn near bought it,but something about my HRD III stood out more and I chose it over the BDRI. I am now looking at buying the '59 Bassman Ltd Reissue,...may be putting it on lay away shortly. I concur with Wayne2 that the HR Dlx is a very good amp!
