Well,guys,...I had the opportunity to try out the '59 Bassman LTD Reissue amp and the Blues Deville Reissue amp this afternoon at Sweetwater,...in terms of tone and ease of use,...and anything else in between,...The Bassman won me over. The Blues Deville sounded a tad muddy and darker compared to the Bassman which had a slightly brighter tone, but still warm and creamy,if I can describe it that way! Time to start saving my pennies and my dimes so I can own a Bassman! The Jensen P10R speakers in the Bassman had a much nicer sound then the Eminence speakers in the Deville. I'm trying to sell a fishing boat I don't use anymore to buy the Bassman! :D :D :D

Great to hear. I pretty much had the same experience. I don't have much of a need for that much power anymore, that's why I built a 5e3 Tweed Deluxe. The Bassman also has a bit better build quality.

I know wattage isn't everything when it comes to overall tone, but I will say the Bassman will be my limit wattage wise,...I believe it's only 45 watts! My HRDlx III is 40 watts. The Deville is a 60 watt amp,...hell,...I aint' gonna need that much power! Based on appearance,I do like the laquered tweed of the Bassman, too! That solid pine cabinet of the Bassman will give it a very nice tone and should only improve the more you play that amp. Looking inside both amps,...yeah,...the Bassman is much better built than the Blues Deville.
My choice; Bassman all the way! Need I say more?

Be careful, once you get a Tweed Bassman, a Tweed Deluxe won't be far behind. I can play most of my gigs with the 5e3 I built. It's lightweight and the kit was only $700 and I put a Weber 12A125A in it. Really nice grab and go amp and so far it has been rock solid. If you can solder and can follow step by step instructions, it's a really simple build.

Who do you buy your amp kits from? I see SO MANY on the internet that it is hard to choose who I'd want to buy a kit from!

I bought mine from Tube Depot. My 5e3 is built on a Mil Spec PCB really thick, double sided with really wide traces. Good parts. Switchcraft jacks, nice tube sockets mounted directly to the chassis, USA Manufactured Classic Tone Transformers, 3/4" pine finger jointed cabinet. Nice kit.
The only I did component wise was to take 250 ohms 5 watt cement Cathode Resistor and upgrade it to an Ohmite 8W Brown Devil resistor. It's an axial tubular ceramic cathode resistor, so I thought it would dissipate the heat a little better. It's a five dollar resistor, but I think it's worth it. I replaced the Jenson Mod with a Weber speaker. It cones with a set of JJ's power and preamp tubes and a JJ's GZ34 rectifier. It seems a little louder than other 5e3's I've played.

The other amp I built, which was my first one was from MOD KITS DIY.
A little five watt true point to point amp. No PCB or Turret board.

I chose these kits because of the great instruction manuals. I was more comfortable with it.

This winter I'm building a kit from BYOC. Looks like a pretty cool amp.
