Got a quick question and I think I already know the answer but wanted to throw it out there anyway.. Will the transformers and choke of a Hot Rod Deluxe work to run a point to point circuit of a Bassman? What would be the real difference?

Thanks!

I don't see why not, although a 5F6's iron is a bit larger than that of a HRD. But that might actually work in your favor since you'll have trannies that will max out at a lower volume level. A tweed Bassman at "12" is a pretty loud chingalero.

I'm thinking of using the trannies but gutting out the circuit boards and going point to point bassman circuit

I know of a few amp builders taking that same tack. Their "recycled" amps work quite well.

Wondering, well, with that said, could it be also true to use a deluxe reverb circuit as well? I know that for the reverb side it would need another choke but that's about it...?

A single-channel amp intended to mimic a Deluxe Reverb's vibrato channel would require five sub-miniature sockets. If you wanted tube rectification another octal would be needed as well. The reverb tranny probably takes up the least amount of physical space compared to the extra tube sockets. It *might* be doable though......

Maybe he could add a tremolo/vibrato circuit, like the Princeton Reverb? A single tube circuit powered by the bias supply. Then, I'd look for a nice 6G15 Reverb Unit. Or build a DIY one.

+1

That would save the expense of punching more holes in the chassis. However, a bias-modulated trem circuit presents some unique engineering problems a la the adjustable bias supply. Most of Leo's designs featuring the bias-wiggle trem (Vibro Champ, Princeton, 6G16, etc) had a fixed-bias circuit.
