My Supersonic Twin came from the factory with it's 2 x 12 Celestion's wired in series (i.e both 8ohms in series for a total of 16ohms), and the selector was set on 8ohms impedance.

Looks like you'll have to flip the switch to 16ohms like me. Maybe the our assembly line guy that day stepped out for a smoke break or something? Lol

Nope, I rewired my speakers for 8ohm parallel to get 4ohm total and set the selector at 4ohm too.

The ohm tolerance is a well know side-note about Fender. The Fender output transformers can handle the load impedance mismatch very well, and should manage to hold its own even at a half or double impedance mismatch. Though it would be best to try and avoid that if possible.

Would a 4ohm load on the amp vs a 16ohm load make the amp more 'reactive' to the frequency response of the speakers?

How does it affect the feedback loop?

Does the impedance switch 'disconnect' some of the windings on the transformer secondary? Are we sure that switch is for all speakers or is it only for external speakers?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm curious but I don't demand answers. :P

Cheers,

Higher load is in theory better for tone than lower load because in higher load you use all the transformer winding

In your amp your transformer have 16 ohms , 8 and 4 tap .

16 ohms is the higher load , if you use the 4 ohms tap ( with 4 ohms speakers ) you use only a quarter of the transformer secondary winding

For anyone interested in these amps I just found an old Guitar World buyers guide that lists it being offered by Fender for the first time. If anyone has actual ads or catalog image for this amp please post.
