I am thinking about trying out a Blues Deville 410 RI amp,...and possibly putting one on "lay away" while saving money for it. I have read some positive reviews and seen demo videos on youtube, but as you know, videos and computer sound system speakers never do an amp justice at all. I still have my HRDlx III,and keeping it,...nothing wrong with it,...but I just want another amp in my 'collection' of one so far. LOL!! I'd go all the way to a Bassman, but I don't have that kind of money,...so the Blues Deville,...if I get one,...will have to do! Judging from the video reviews I have seen, they don't sound bad at all,but I still want to try one in person before buying. The Blues Deluxe RI is another choice, but the Deville has the Bassman look for less money. I want an amp with a warmer, bluesier tone. One amp is NOT enough!

IMO Blues Deville and Hot Rod Dlx are built with same components , printed circuits board , plastic input jacks.

More blues tone than HRDlx ?

I have a Blues Deville 410, an original, not the reissue. I like it alot, but I have replaced all of the jacks with metal and also replaced the pots with better quality pots. I also installed two ragin cajuns and two eminence legends. I put an EH 12ay7 in v1 and some jj 6L6gc tubes. Sounds damn good with all my guitars and plenty loud..

I also have a Blues Deluxe Reissue with the same tube setup and a Cannibas Rex speaker. Sounds damn good with all my guitars and plenty loud.

I really like the clean's on both amps, they handle my pedals pretty good and they sound good in stereo.

I have three other tube amps, Egnater Tweaker 15, Deluxe Reverb Reissue and an older Laney LC30 112. I find myself practicing the most with the Deville and the Egnater. Most of the jamming live I use the Deluxe Reverb and either the Tweaker with a 1 x12 cab or the Blues Deluxe. The Blues Deville is a pretty heavy amp so I really don't like dragging it around so that might be something to think about. The Blues Deluxe is real similar to the Blues Deville and in a smaller package, but the Blues Deville is a major tone monster when it gets cranked up.

I would recommend playing whatever amps you are thinking of getting and use the guitar you plan on playing through it.. I liked both of them, so I got both of them.. They both have their own tone and I like the variety for my song writing and inspiration.

I'd look for a used Bassman RI LTD. I borrow one every once in a while for larger gigs and it's amazing. I never really liked the the Blues Dlx/Dvl because they sound a bit darker and muffled to me and I like a bit more sparkle to my sound. But a speaker change may help that. You need to sit down with one and try it out with your own guitars. That way you'll be sure if it works for you.

I will take looking at a used Bassman RI LTD into consideration,Supro. I intend to sit down with a Blues DeVille in the very near future and try one out, though. Well,...I'll tell ya,...compared to my HRDlx III which has a bit more sparkle to it's tone the Blues Dlx RI does have a bit darker sound,...not really sure I call it muffled, though. As always,...and I think you will agree with me on this one,...you have to let your ears be the judge. I have tried the Blues Dlx RI and I will say I do like it's warmer/darker tone,...but I can't yet vouch for the larger Blues DeVille model until I have a chance to try one out. I may,...just for the hell of it,...try out the Bassman as well for fun, albeit a new model and not a used one. Reason for that is the music retailer I do all my business with does not carry used gear,...only new. Thanks for the tip! :)

I had a HRDlx a ways back and the clean tone was nice. The Drive was horrible though. Mine wasn't reliable at all so I dumped it.

The cabinetry may play a role in those sonic differences. The 5F6-A Bassman LTD enclosure is built of finger-joined pine planks -- the HR's are not.

I think you're right Arjay. My 5e3 is a pine cabinet and it just has a certain resonant, quality to it. It's hard to explain. But given a choice between a Blues Deville and a Bassman LTD, I'd go Bassman LTD new or used. When you jumper the channels on a Tweed it's sonic nirvana. I always run my 5e3 that way.

Another benefit is, such construction is both lighter and more durable than contemporary cabinet materials and assembly methods such as MDF or plywood with lapped rabbet joints.

The '59 Bassman LTD Reissue just MIGHT be within reach for me thanks to Sweetwater Music & Technology,...which is who I buy ALL my gear from. Fender's price for that amp is $1,949.99,...Sweetwater's price is $1,449.99,...a savings of $500.00. For the Blues DeVille,...Fender's price is $1,469.99,...Sweetwater's price is $1,049.99,...a savings of $420.00! Prices and price differences aside,...as Supro has suggested,I need to try both amps with MY guitar and let my ears be the judge. I intend to do that very thing soon,...REAL soon! Something tells me before I even try the amps that I may just lean towards the '59 Bassman LTD(Laquered Tweed,...NOT Limited as some may think),...but it's WAY too early to tell. I have seen video reviews of an A/B comparison on youtube with both amps,...and the Bassman sounded awesome with those Jensen speakers. BUT,...videos NEVER do an amp justice when you listen to them through computer speakers as you all well know. You gotta hear them in person! :D

Very Cool KC9SYJ.
Let us know your thoughts. When you try the Bassman, if you can, try jumping the channels. It adds even more sonic flavor to the amp. The Bassman is a bit better built. My friend who lends me his has had his for over 15 years with only tube changes here and there and he is really hard on his gear. Really hard....

I'll be sure to do that! I am looking forward to trying that amp out,and I sure as hell wish Sweetwater had a lay away program,...they don't,though. That is my one and only gripe against them,...other than that, they are great to do business with. They do have gift certificates you can buy and use toward purchase of the amp or any other gear. That aside,I feel,...even as a beginner/amateur musician,..the Bassman my very well be an amp that will inspire me to play better and practice more. Hmmmm,...maybe I should trade in my HRDlx III,...NOT,...I still love that amp and want to keep it. Have a much BETTER idea,...sell my damn boat and use the money from that to buy the Bassman! :D :D :D
I don't fish much anymore to begin with,...my heart is in music and amateur radio! :D :D
