Maybe shimmi has the right idea. Maybe we all need to read posts while imagining it is our grandmother saying it.

So, it's not OK for Bill to say not-very-nice things about others but it's fine for you to use words like douchebag to describe him.
I guess I'll have to presume you feel justified because, "he did it first."
Thanks, I understand now.
You're 6.

Bill's actions were in some ways indefensible. Good info is no excuse for bad behaviour.
But how is your behaviour any different from his with comments like that?
There is an old saying.
"When you point a finger at someone you point three fingers back at yourself."
It has to do with the position of your individual fingers when you make that finger-pointing gesture.
You're not exactly an angel on this board, either.
You make a lot of people bite their tongues on a regular basis.

It's a shame that Bill wasn't able to stand up to whatever stressors he was enduring.
It's a shame he wasn't able to just let it run off of him like water off a duck's back and just let it go.
It's also a shame he made such a big deal about leaving because it makes returning more difficult.
Lots of us have left this place for a while, myself included.
You have to have shitloads of patience to peacefully coexist with the glut of imbeciles running amok around here.
You and your Bill-bashing buddies should take a look in the mirror.
You do the EXACT same things that you're getting all pissy about here.

Bill, if you're lurking and reading this, chill out for a few weeks or months. Get your happy place back. Learn to grease yourself up with teflon before logging in and please come back.

Forget it, Matt......his porch light may be on but there's nobody home.

Best to just water him three times a week, throw some Miracle-Gro on him once in a while, and make sure he gets plenty of sunshine.

Wow. Hard to believe that my goodbye has caused such controversy that it has kept this thread going for 7 pages.

To Arjay, Beemer and all my other friends, no need to worry about me. I am busier and happier than I have been in a long time. I have a loving wife, a sweet dog, and a job I love that keeps me on the road quite a bit. I look forward to retiring in a few more years if the economy picks up.

To all the others out there, you are still on my ignore list and I really don't care what you think or say about me.

Although I created a new amp build thread last December and helped out a guy with questions in my BDRI Mods thread over the last few weeks (I created the thread, so I have every right to monitor it and post in it if I choose), I have no intention of coming back to this forum on a regular basis. I monitor and will post in my three amp build threads and two amp modification threads if something comes up, but that's it.

There is no need to respond to this post (although I am sure there are some who will) because I won't reply back. Ya'll keep on playing your guitars and making music or whatever gives you pleasure in life.

This is an interesting phenomenon.

Bill (bluesky), Arjay (Retroverbial) and the "Old Guard" have never been anything but gracious and kind to me, even when I had a differing opinion or an "ignorant" question...or even when I had a "stupid" question! They've always been helpful and respectful, even in their occasional fits of Curmudgeonality (yes, I created that word).

I look to and contact them (especially Arjay) when I have a question or need technical advice, and I've never been belittled or mistreated in any way. I'm not a purist (as some claim Bill to be), but he and Arjay have never held that against me.

However, most of the guys who claim he was unkind, argumentative or bullying have been unkind, argumentative or bullying when I had a difference of opinion with them...

I have strong opinions about my own gear (mostly bourne of my own experiences), but I am pretty easygoing and have a fairly laissez-faire attitude regarding other people's equipment, instruments and amps...

...but the people who complain about Bill do not extend the same courtesy to anyone with different opinions regarding tube vs. solid-state, analog vs. digital, etc. In fact, I have received much more ridicule and venom from those individuals than I have witnessed being given to them by Bill, Arjay and the so-called "Old Guard".

Methinks the wrong people are taking leave of this forum.

I hope you'll reconsider and come back soon, Bill.

I also hope the "victims" take a look at themselves and change their methodology...or take their leave of this place, whichever is easier for them.

I'd hate to see anyone with an interest in Fender equipment leave but the truth is, most of us as members of the "old guard" have many decades in the trenches. Many of us are formally trained and credentialed. We have a pretty good idea of what works, what doesn't, and what might. We share opinions, cite facts, and offer assistance. If the naysayers cannot appreciate that then relief is as close as the "foe" button on their profile page. Once selected they'll never again be bothered by our dogma, debates, or arguments. It's really that simple.

(I do appreciate your commentary, SA. I've always regarded you as one of the "good guys")

Here! here! I have to admit this is how I felt during what I call the dark time on the forum, and was very sad when Bill said goodbye. I always had learned something from Bill's advise to others on the working of there amp.
When the pissing war started I was quite appalled at some of the forum members here and I have learned who to take serious, and have never forgot who to ignore.

Thank you. I think respect, civility and intelligence go a long way in your book. (That applies to Bill and mud and Nikininja and SKcoppertele and many others...) .

I've only seen you respond with what you were treated...and even then, I've seen you treat people's ignorance as a chance to help them to learn and get along.

I seldom tolerate rudeness past an initial comment--and I usually ask for clarification at that point (before I respond). You and Bill normally did the same.

I also never felt I had to break into any kind of Good Ol' Boys club--I was accepted pretty quickly and very easily...but I didn't treat anyone like I deserved more respect than what I gave, either.

My parents taught me to show polite confidence where I am skilled, and polite humility where I'm not. That would be a good trait for these "victims" to learn.
