Perhaps he departed because he's going to start his own forum where intelligent discourse is the rule rather than the exception. Hopefully he'll pre-screen the prospective members to weed out the dipsticks and the pinheads and the cretins who insist on crapping up every discussion group they join.

That would be a great idea. A forum for old men like you two to sit around and talk about some crusty tube amp from 1947 and how the kids and their fancy pre amp distortion just don't get it. That would be like curmudgeon Disneyland.

Maybe every once in a while you could allow some unsuspecting youngster to join the forum and let him make a thread called "Noob question: What's the standby switch for? LOL. (sry, new to guitar)" then you guys could post a link to a schematic and tell him to figure it out and when he asks how to read the schematic you can list the electronic training and tube-amp-building history of both of the other two members of the forum and how he should start by buying a basic electronics book before advancing to tube amp circuits since he obviously can't tell his $@! from a hole in the ground. Then when he responds by saying "sorry, I thought you guys could help, didn't know I would be attacked for asking a question", one of you could then post "You thought wrong, dipstick. Welcome to my ignore list." then the other could post "+1... dummy #126 joins the ignore list." Then the forum would be just two posting members and 50 ignored members who will never post again.

You forgot the part where you have to name the forum after something these kids will love, like say Modern Guitar Amplifiers (1985 - current). You need to do this to gain the necessary foot traffic and achieve sufficient shock value. Then you tell them that the new amp they've been saving up for is total crap, and that Fender should be ashamed for producing it.

and "That's why I only play the amps I build these days... yep, I build amps... oh, would you like to buy one? Maybe I'll sell you one. Let me think about it. Website? Yeah, I have a website... http://www.curmudgeonamps.com... $3000 for a naked 5e3 curcuit, no box, no tubes, no transformers, no caps, no resistors... send money in advance and I'll decide within 90 days if I feel like making it or not... no refunds... never mind... welcome to IGNORE."

You guys are pretty much the same as Bill.
Hope you're having fun. You just proved once again it's not just the"old" guys causing the problems here.
And yeah there are some young guys here who were embraced by the old guys. Coppertele comes to mind. Very talented young guy. He was somewhere around 12 or 13 when he joined the forum. The only guys that gave him a problem were other young guys.

I can only speak for myself, but I'm just having a bit of fun. Hope there are no hurt feelings.

Just remember, not all the older members here are hard headed short tempered people. I follow people for a pretty long time to try to figure out their personalities. Sometimes if someone has a different sense of humor than you're used to, feelings get hurt. I was the same way way back.

There's a lot of information to be had here. Some old guys have a lot of experience to share. And yeah, I build my own amps and pedals. Not to think I'm smarter or better than anyone else, but because I enjoy it and it's a form of therapy for me as well as being cheaper and more reliable than any of the newer amps I've bought. I also build solid state amps to use with cigar box guitars I build. I started during a rough patch in my life, and it helped me a lot. I learned from other people here, they have information that you'll never find in any book.

The disrespect shown towards Bluesky was caused entirely by his rude remarks and his crusty attitude. If you have to wade through his bad behavior to get to his nuggets of tube amp wisdom, then no thank you.

I'm at a loss for words here,...but in some ways I would have to agree with the both of you. However,I was at least learning some things from Bill about tube amps(,...even if I didn't agree with his extensive modding of a practically brand new Blues Deluxe Reissue amp). I've learned some things from some of the other older members as well. But there were times I did in fact sense a somewhat crusty rude attitude from him toward me and others,...and it wasn't right at all. But overall,I did have some respect for Bill and his knowledge of electronics,...where I lacked the knowledge or had a question,...he had the knowledge and answer for me and was nice about it. Still,I dislike seeing him go,...he was an asset to this board.

Communication on a forum as compared to actually speaking to someone can be a bit difficult. It is easy to read things into posts that sometimes aren't actually there. I have done this myself, more so when I first joined the forum. I try to not take things personally as much as I used to. As an interesting experiment, I sometimes read a post as if my grandmother had written it. It makes a world of difference as to how I perceive the "tone" of the post. However, we all have probably been guilty of being at least a little curmudgeonly at one time or another, and some of us maybe more-so than others. We are all human after all, and have emotions, burdens, bad days, etc.

Their little gang leader sent me a video of some guy singing "F*** You", while the rest of them laughed and +1'ed each other. Not much room for interpretation there.
