So 2 months ago my hrdlx started making a horrible oscillating noise when i would crank it for jam sessions. Did alot of research and found out that its most likely due to bad capacitors, so i ordered new ones, put them in plugged in my jag, turned it on and it was working BUT it was super quiet and it seems like there was a lot of tube saturation going on, clean channel was distorted at higher volumes(which wasnt very loud at all).....so it has now been 2+ months that i have been dealing with this and ive become impatient. I have been giving the opportunity to trade my not working hrdlx for a new super champ x2 head. So that is my main reason for this post, should i trade my broken hrdlx for a new super champ x2 head?

No you shouldn't. Sorry you are having issues with it, and no offense but you should get yourself a good amp tech to give it a bench check. And I don't mean one of the zit poppers at Guitar Center. A good amp tech is worth their weight in gold, ask other guitarists, etc., to find one in your area.

+1

A SCX2 may be a cute hobby project but it's hardly in the same class as a HRDlx, at least as far as professional gigging potential. A "rude" drummer and a "rowdy" bass player would drown that fifteen-watt toy in a heartbeat.

Have your HR repaired.

Get the HRD fixed, I own both, a SCX2 Combo with an eminence Lil Buddy, and a HRD with a C-Rex, hands down the HRD sounds way better, and by far. The SCX2 is a nice little grab and go amp, but for serious playing out, the HRD is essential as a choice between the 2.

Yep true dat. Mine is not very loud, only a little more volume (maybe) than my 5 watt Epiphone Valve Jr head. Of course I have not re-tubed/BISASED it yet. Whenever that happens I will report back.

Still the SCX2, although a nice little amp, is really only a practice amp or a grab and go for small house/garage jams, or a very small room. Plus the fidelity of the SCX2 is nowhere near as full, clear, and tone-ful as a tweaked HRD.

I am the guilty one. I got a Supersonic and gave the HRDx away. Couldn't be happier!

That sounds like a better trade than for a SCX2 head.

It works great for my brother. He didn't have an amp and he is happy with the HRDx.
