Recently bought a Champion 100 and decided to split the speaker wires so a different amp can be used. I found a better part to use than the stuff I had, so I soldered the wires back up and now there's a grounding problem. I'm 100% positive the speaker wires are not touching the chassis and there is no other open wires I see. When no cable and guitar is plugged in, its perfectly silent. Plug just the cable in and the buzz is back. The buzz is only on any of the distortion presets, switch the channel and its perfectly quiet. When I touch the metal ends of the cable (not the tip though) the buzz dies down to almost nothing. Same thing when touching the metal body. I'm not sure what to try now so I was hoping for some suggestions. Also I do understand the possibility of the grounding in my house as the problem but the amp worked well before I cut the wires. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi leppie7,

Any chance that you reversed the wires when you reconnected the speaker?

leppie 7, check all grounding wires near where you did the modification. Sounds like you may after accidentally lifted one off the chassis.

+1

Try a different cable and or guitar. Higher gain settings tend to exaggerate any noises.

Part arrived and I resoldered. Noise went away after that. My guess is a dead solder joint. Was thinking about testing the joint's resistance but its all good now so no need!
Thank you all for the replies!
