Hi,

Last week end, I built my first valve amp : 5f1 clone.
A friend of mine crafted the cabinet. It's a very nice job.
That was so funny to do that I already planned my next work : a 5e3 and then, maybe a Bassman.
Material :
Speaker : WGS
Capacitors : Orange Drop or Gold capa
Resistors : carbon comp
Valves : TAD and Electro Harmonix

Here is a pic.

Vince...Very nice job. Great lead dress too! How long did it take from start to finish? I have thought of trying my hand at one of the 5F1 kits as a winter project. And lastly how much experience do you have with amp work? I have done some amp refurbs, but always left the electronics portion to my amp tech.

I was curious as well. It does look cool, but how does it sound?

Curious about how long it took as well. Most MojoTone tweeds estimate build as 4 hours.

Hi,

Thanks for your messages.
It took me about 5 hours to complete the electronic part.
I'm experienced with electronics but I wanted to really think about all the steps, find alternative solutions etc ...
Now, I guess I could complete a 5f1 in 2h30.
It's not hard if you know how to solder properly and if you have a clear organization of the process (critical path in order to avoid undoing what you did before etc ...).

I took great pleasure to do that and I'm thinking of doing it again and again ::

I'm gonna try some alternatives : new capacitors, a tone stack, impedance switch etc ...

It sounds nice. I'll make a recording and post here.

I've received several messages from french guitarists asking me to build 5f1 for them ! Next month, I'll have 3 to do !
Maybe a new job is starting ... ;)
