What would the difference be between a ECC83S And a balanced ECC83S?

These tubes like all 12XX7 have "two tubes " in same glass bulb , if not balanced , each one may not have same gain .

Most of the time you do not need balanced tube , only in Hi fi . I never buy those .

The V3 tube in a HRDlx is the phase inverter. Regardless of what type of tube is installed there, ideally it should be balanced for symmetrical transconductance.

Can you hear it ?

If you buy a "non Balanced" tube this do not mean it is not balanced , it just mean the seller did not check if it is balanced or not IMO

Well the hot rod has left the building. My son stopped by on his way home from work as I was putting the back on, told him what I was up to and he said I should get a new amp and give him the HRD. So, I used my go to child rearing phrase, "Ask your Mom". She was cool with it, as she always is, so good by HRD, hello DRRI. Just have to chose between the '65 and '68. So back to the WWW for videos and info.
Thank to all for the info and insight, It was educational as well as enjoyable.
Later......Tom

Those new SF DRRI's seem to have their share of woes. I haven't tried one out. I have played the 65 and it's a fine sounding amp. Just be sure to try it in the store just in case it has any issues.

Thanks for the heads up. I have heard so much good stuff about the '65 I was kind of leaning that way, but I also read that the '68 had a bassman tone stack on the normal channel, I believe it was, that sounded pretty good. I've been to 4 Guitar Centers and none had the '68 anyway. I took my music man Steve Morse with me and it sounded really good through the '65 so that's likely the way I'll go.
Thanks for the info.
Later.....Tom

Great timing & strategy  +1 on trying out the new amp before you buy. If you get a good one I expect you'll be happy w/it. I'm enjoying my '65 DRRI a lot.
