The footswitch on my Hot Rod Deluxe III is not working. When I plug it in to the amp a red light comes on above the "drive/more drive" switch, but neither of the switches work. Also while the footswitch is plugged in, I cannot change channels or activate the more drive button on the amp manually. Has anyone experienced this issue? I am trying to determine if the problem is with the footswitch or with the amp. Thanks.

If your amp switches channels correctly via the front-panel switch when the footswitch is unplugged, there's likely nothing amiss there. You might also try an alternate foot-switch cable before diagnosing the switch as the cause of the malfunction.

Thanks for the reply. I have tried several different cables, punched both buttons numerous times and still no luck. I don't feel or hear any click on the footswitch buttons and don't know if that matters. I understand that these footswitches work different from others and that a non fender switch will not work.

Correct -- you need the Fender-specific footswitch for your amp. If changing the cable made no difference it sounds like yours took a dump.

When you do not hear or feel a 'click' with the footswitch, chances are good the switch is defective. Seems odd however, that both would go at the same time. I've had them go one at a time.

And btw, when the cable is plugged in, it is normal for the buttons on the amp to be non-functional.

If you are handy with a soldering iron, you could replace the defective switches. Otherwise, replacement footswitch assemblies aren't real expensive:
