Ok, I have a simple question for you guys, I own a mexican standard tele and strat. I have a few different solid state amps (roland, vox, orange). I am in the market for my first "real" amp. I play a lot of country..... A LOT lol. The every once in a while songs that need some distortion (skynard, clapton....etc) and quiet a bit of oldies I guess one would say (sam cooke, buddy holly...etc) I know a twin is way to loud for me. I dont play gigs currently but just stated with a band that plays what I mentioned above and we will hopefully be gigging in the near future (small town bars, partys and such). What amp would you guys buy?

There are only two types of Fender tube-amp fans.

Those who own a Deluxe Reverb......

And those who will own a Deluxe Reverb.

Me?

I own three of them.

Your solid state amps aren't "real"?

I've heard some good-sounding solid-state amps.

But I've never heard a great one.

Probably the best tones I ever heard were from the Sunn Coliseum's that Townsend and The Ox used in the early/mid '70s, with the runner-up being Albert King and his Acoustic 260.

These two amps --- though they have 6V6GT output stage and run tube rectification --- prolly are the two most different sounding comparison. For many reasons. Speakers. Iron used. Phase Inverter type. Gain stage setup. To the different vibrato/tremolo stage setup.

You just need to demo both and see which amp best fits your needs. For now and in the future.

Good luck! :D

+1 on the Deluxe Reverb. It would serve you well. Just remember that with a tube amp you can end up serving it. It's real easy to get caught up in a tone war with yourself, but maybe that's half the fun. Ya know, tubes, speakers, this pre amp tube, that pre amp tube, NOS or new production, oh, and then there's mods, and the list goes on and on and on. Just don't forget to actually play the thing.

+1 on the Deluxe Reverb. I get lost in that amp everytime I plug into it..
I have a Blues Deluxe, Blues Deville 410 and an Egnator Tweaker 15, but the Deluxe Reverb has got the magic. I use a EH Small Clone, Carbon Copy delay, Hardwire CM2 and Fulltone Fulldrive 2 and with the reverb and vibrato of the Deluxe that thing can make some dreamy tones. Just straight into the amp is great also. I have a radial bigshot that allows me to play through both channels with phase correction and I really like that thing..

Did you notice my signature?

Been playing guitar for 38 years. I've owned numerous tube and solid state amps.

Trust me, the solid state amps I owned were real. An '80s Yamaha G100 212 was one of the best amps I've ever owned. I've heard the G100 115 is even better but I've never even seen one of those.

I've also owned Fenders, Voxs, Peaveys, a Crate, and old Supro Spectator and serious POS Kent tube amp.

I've also built two tube amps and done a little bit of maintenance (nothing close to the experience of Arjay and others).

I used to play a Peavey Heritage and the Yamaha in parallel through a pan pedal. No single amp beats the tone of two amps layered (assuming they're both dialed in nicely). The Peavey Heritage has a tube power section and a solid state pre-amp. I seriously doubt I ever drove those four 6L6s into distortion.

Cheers,

I love my Big Shot.

Have you tried using it to play two amps simultaneously?
