I realize that some of you are knowledgable on this matter. I do not like the reverb on this amp at all. I have been told by the Guy at Guitar center to put a type 4 in but he would not tell me anything else but to contact accutronice reverb.com. They put me in contact with tubes and more .com. The man on the phine said that I might use 4EB3C1B but he was not sure. maybe part no. P-RK-4EB3C1B.
has any one replaced the reverb? were the results good.
If you are an angry tube pusher, pleasedo no reply. I own a heavy $@! 68 Super reverb deluxe and am happy.

In the OP's defense, these type of posts are often met with the same old "get rid of that SS POS and get a real tube amp", or "Why modify that amp when...."

So, it appears that the OP has read of few threads and wants to avoid those type responses, and only wants to know about replacing his reverb tank.

I would ask, what type of tank is in the amp now?

Despite the R in Frontman 212R, it really is the weakest sounding reverb I have ever owned in amp.It is a short tank. I think it was three springs, but it may have been two. A long tank reverb would do it some good. I was researching this just before my 212R gave up the ghost. Amplified Parts had a long tank that would probably have done the job for me. Sorry, but I just did not keep my notes after the amp was exchanged under warranty for a different model, but the folks at Amplified Parts are great and will know exactly what long tank will work. Plenty of room in the cabinet and the thing, as most tanks uses RCA jacks for hook up.

If I had kept the amp and if I swapped the tank, I was going to add the black nylon case for the tank to insulate it. Amplified Parts has that as well. I had such a case on the tank with 90's Blues Deluxe and the reverb really was lush. (God, why did I sell that amp?)

Just to be sure, is the 1968 a Super Reverb or a Deluxe Reverb? Anyhow, the SR and the DR seem to have the best reverb of this era Fender amps. So, it'll be hard to compare either one to a modern amp with a tank.

I believe that the shorter three-spring model tanks tend to have a "faster" decay reverb tone than the longer two-spring models. So, if you are looking for the "dripping wet" tone, the longer two-spring model (if it'll fit), is prolly the right way to go.

I don't know the input-output impedances of your amp. You need to match the tank to these parameters. A healthy reverb section (good tubes, layout, and good "triplet caps") will also help.

I knew where he was coming from. I just thought a howdy would be nice before a question with a reasonable parameter. I like good boundaries, very healthy but, I'm a geezer and have that old fashioned manners thing goin' on. :D So I let my inner curmudgeon out.
