Im with you.

While I don't know about the original Jensens, the website is for the reissue speakers. Your rolling the dice using even a 50 watt speaker with a 40 watt amp. All you have to do is step on an Od pedal that boosts the volume enough dbs and you could have problems.

My point precisely.

Perhaps a safer option might be Weber's 12A150 or something from Eminence.

Terrific amp pictures !
I love the BlueSky amp.

I was wondering : what about installing 2 speakers in the BDRI, 2x10 or 2x12 (if it fits) for instance ? Something like 2xP12N @ 4ohms ?
Any benefit to do such a thing ?

Twelve's are not an option due to the physical limitations of the cab but ten's are likely doable. You'll need a 16-ohm pair, wired in parallel. And two P10N's will provide an ample safety margin to forestall any unsavory surprises.

If the speaker in the blues deluxe is not hard wired you could also get a cabinet with what ever size speakers you want as long as you have the correct ohms.

You have been suggested the Weber speaker. Don't rule out a ceramic Jensen clone for that amp either.

They also sell cabinets. Its up to you how much money you want to dump into an amplifier.

I have an eminence legend in my 5112. I think that rated @70 watts. It works well if your going to use pedals. Im looking to go the Weber route with a Jensen clone myself. Just to get a more traditional tweed tone.

The BDlx has two speaker output jacks and can drive loads of either four or eight ohms (total) contingent upon how they're connected to the amp. If using an outboard cab in conjunction with the amp's internal speaker, the added enclosure's impedance should be 8 ohms for optimum efficiency.

Which is why the Jensen website lists two power levels for each speaker:

Electrical Characteristics for 8Ω
Nominal Impedance 8 Ω
Rated Power 40 W
Musical Power 80 W
Sensitivity@1W,1m 95.0 dB

Rated power uses pink noise and music power uses, well music I guess.

Thanks.

Two 10" speakers will fit in the BDRI. I used to have a link to the web page showing the modification, but can't find it.

Great, thanks !
So, I'll do it next week and publish some pics.
What about 2 Jensen Alnico Series P10R @16ohms, is 2x25W enough to cover the BDRI 40w output ?
If not, seems I have the P10Q (40W) but nothing above.

Hi,
Thanks for all these advices.
I've made the changes on my Blues Deluxe.
It's like I have a completely new amp now !
What I changed :
- retubing + 12AY7 in preamp
- lacquering with a poly mix of my own. I kept the tweed as it was.
- installed 2x10 Jensen Classic on new baffle. I also bought 2 Cannabis Rex and will test in a while.
- re biasing
- lead dressing and new shielded cables from here to here.

And a picture.

I also built a 5f1 amp.
Will write a post about it.

Thanks again for your help.

Vince

I did the upgrade to the P12N and I'm not looking back.
Here is a video comparison, even recorded on my phone you can hear the difference in the clean. More sparkle and bass, the mids are less grainy.
Here's a video comparison:
