My new '65 DRRI head is exhibiting a constant, regular, and soft "ticking" sound at about 240 bpm. It can be heard with both channel volumes all the way down. I swapped out instrument cables and speaker cables (connecting to the 2x12 cab) but no difference. If I put the amp into Standby it goes away.

I've also plugged it into a power bar, then tried it in the wall outlet. I have also turned off all CFL lights in the room but no change (not surprising as the building is only 8 yrs old with modern wiring and grounding)

I'm not about to take anything apart and can return it for an exchange but wanted to put this out there in case anyone has any ideas on how to further diagnose or make it stop (ex: leave it On/Standby OR On/On for an extended period of time).

Thanks
Derek

It sounds like the infamous "trem ticking" caused by the tremolo circuit, and many DRs seem to exhibit this noise. Does the speed of the tick change with a change in the tremolo speed setting?

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

Hey shimmilou....good call! Turned it back on, warmed up the tubes for about 5 minutes, and then turned it On/On and when I began turning the [Tremolo] Speed dial, the bpm of the ticking increased! I'll check the web for a possible DIY fix but will likely take it back to the dealer today.

Cheers

After shaking off the morning fog and making a really strong coffee with Bailey, I got it fixed....well sort of. Remembering :?: that the Tremolo feature is activate by the foot switch, I plugged the foot switch back in and turned off the Tremolo. Fixed! No more ticking (unless of course I want to use the Tremolo circuit in the future which I probably won't....not my thing).

So now I'll either have to get the circuit fixed or return this head if I really want to have a 100% working amp. Plus, I may look for a better, after market foot switch because this one feels cheap as hell. Peace~
