Seems the supersonic 100 head is out of stock or discontinued on all the major sites. Are they still making it?

Fender Still has the 100W Head for sale on their site. Maybe the stores are just out of stock?

Just had Guitar Center check directly with Fender. The supersonic 100 Head has indeed been discontinued.

Damn, I was seriously considering grabbing one. Wonder why the amp wasn't more popular, as I've heard consistently good things about it.

I'm certain that somewhere on planet Earth you'll find a new SS100......have you tried the any of the on-line stores or Ebay?

And if FMIC discontinues a product after such a short marketing cycle you might pause for a moment and ask yourself why......

Seems to be unavailable/discontinued on ZZounds, Sweetwater, Musician's Friend, Guitar Center...

Indeed! Looks like I'm Boogie-bound for a high-end, 100W, multi-channel gain-y kind of an amp. Guess I'd better save another grand...

Wonder what the problem was? Were there serious issues with the amp, or was it all about the fender-is-for-cleans stereotype?

The Super Sonic 100 watt head was probably not selling well enough to continue production. Probably economic reasons....... I wonder if they are still making the SS 100 W twin?

It may have simply be an issue of limited demand. Few venues still exist where a 100-watt 2 x 12 combo or 4 x 12 half-stack is appropriate. I think it's noteworthy that the SS22 and SS60 remain as cataloged items.

If you really, really need 100W, you may ignore this, but otherwise SS60 is a damn fine amp and it can serve as an amp head as well - you can unplug the built-in speaker and plug an external cab in it and use it as you would use the SS100. Unless you regularly play big arenas and stadiums, 60W should be more than enough power :)
I didn't have the SS100, but I reckon it sounds more or less the same as SS60 - if you have same speakers plugged in. So you might want to check out that possibility as well :)

+1

Your back and the audience members in the first five rows will thank you as well.

Get an SS60 used and and with the money you saved get a couple of Eminence Wizards ( or any equally sensitive speaker ) and you'll blow a standard SS100 out of the water.

The thing is, my interest in the 100 wasn't so much about potential volume/loudness.

The 100 had a few bells and whistles that seemed to make some sense. A mids control for the clean channel, a mids-notch for the burn channel, speaker dampening (tight, normal, loose), auto bias, etc.

The SS Twin has all of those however.

Besides the Great Sound through the Twin 12-inch Celestions, the features you mention are also all the unique features I love about my Supersonic Twin.

It's a shame if they did discontinue the SS-100, I'm glad I got mine cause it's truly an awesome amp. I kinda figured this was coming though cause the price kept steadily falling, the original MSRP was $2500 and I got mine for $1100 new. It's real selling point for me though was not the high power, it was all the features that the lower models don't have.

I would opine that a similar fate awaits the Machete based on its continually falling MSRP. Dealers can't seem to give them away.

Glad I got mine in January for under a grand. It's a great amp that has lot's of cleans and the dirty channel sounds really good. Handles effects pedals real well to.
