picked up a used XD about a week ago.
Love it, great tone, etc...

HOWEVER, it makes a high pitched bell ringing sound whenever I hit B string or if i crank the reverb.
Tested the tubes, bought new JJ's, installed tongiht...and the RINGING IS STILL THERE.

It hurts the ears too much to play, and my dog hates my guts right now.

I can't take it back to the store because they have a no return policy on used amps..suckas...fender is closed, and I'm ticked.

Anybody gone through this?

I don't know why, but even on Fender solid states the reverb feeds back with high pitched shrillness...happened on my blues junior, as well.

What's the problem guys...I can't take any more of this.

I own the more current X2. A very nice amp. I am under the impression they are disposable, like a cheap lighter. They work until they don't.

I am not suggesting there is no fix, just that these amps are not keepers unless one lucks out. I hope you luck out with a fix.

I think the Blues Jr. has a separate tube for the reverb. Putting a new tube in my V3 (HRD lll) made my reverb much more sweet and 'organic'. Unfortunately, the X2 and XD only have digital reverb. I have very nice reverb, all of them, on my X2. Do you have a problem with all of your reverb choices?

man I hope there's a fix...I hope whoever had this prior to me didn't try to bias the thing and screwed up.

I sold a VOX ac15c1 to get $$$ to refurbish a 1966 gibson SG, and then I sold a jaguar to get enough for thsi amp and to have extra in case the refurb goes awry.

If i can't return this thing, I'm totally hosed here.

Your HRD's reverb is both driven and recovered via op-amps......just like the Blues Jr.

The spring reverb is the 'noisiest' of the three options on the XD, but it's not just limited to reverb...it's just enhanced.

I just reseated every screw in the cabinet and speaker, etc.
Issue remains.

Even without the FX set at all, the bell ringing is there.

Yup. V3 is the phase inverter and has nothing to do with the reverb. In fact, the op amp driver/receiver for the reverb come before the PI tube so any change in the PI will affect the entire amp tone regardless if the reverb is used or not.

Unlike the reverb of the BJR and HRD (both of which use an actual spring reverb tank), the "reverb" on the SCHD is digitally generated. If you are having high pitched noises and reverb noise issues, the problem most likely resides in the DSP circuits. Unless you can find a DSP engineer, you are probably hosed. Hope you didn't pay too much for the amp.

+1

All may not be lost though. That amp was discontinued only a couple of years ago -- it's possible that the DSP module responsible for all of the digital effects may still be available from Fender. However, I wouldn't dawdle -- once those parts are gone, they're gone forever.

Here's an old thread by BillM on the Fender Forum that talks a bit about the SCXD digital circuitry:

http://www.fenderforum.com/forum.html?d ... ber=654379

If you can still get the chip from Fender, hopefully it is pre-programmed.

found the original receipt in the bottom of the amp, took it to an authorized tech, he is investigating, etc.

Probably end up with an SCx2 if it's defective.

Sounds like a winner to me -- the SCX2 is a more versatile rig.
