I used to have a Blues Deville (4x10s) that couldn't get near as loud as what I'm hearing from your 15W Blues Junior, nor did it have the tone I'm hearing out of your new Hot Rod (not Pro Tube, as I originally stated) amps.

I heard a guy playing a Nashville Deluxe Tele through a Blues Junior in a club recently and that amp sounded fantastic. It was VERY LOUD for 15W and the tone was beautiful--thick, bluesy, and sustained. Needless to say, I was very impressed. Great job on that amp, Fender!!

Is the Blues Junior 15W RMS or something else? Amps used to be rated by RMS power but I don't recall seeing RMS in your ratings today. Why are these new low power amps sounding so much louder and better than some of your more powerful amps. Is it the special design speakers or how the power ratings are calculated today? I realize the tubes are being driven hard, but like I said, the Blues Deville could never put out the tone and volume of your Pro Tube amps of today.

Thanks in advance.
John

The Blues Junior can produce 120dB or more of sound, and 15 watts is plenty for most situations. The main reason to go to higher power is to have more clean headroom at higher loudness.

I've measured 12-14 watts with essentially no distortion in Blues Juniors, and 18-20 watts with audible distortion.

Thanks, Bill! (I presume "machrone" is Bill Machrone.)

I read billm's Blues Junior mods with great interest. What about a noise/RF filter between the power source (wall/floor jack) and the AC cord of the Blues Junior? Wouldn't that help tremendously, or no?

Regards,
John

I have seldom found powerline noise to be a problem. It gets filtered pretty well by the power supply. Is there a specific problem (hiss, hum, radio stations) that you're trying to solve? Does it happen without a guitar plugged in? With pedals? Straight in? What volume/master settings?
