I did some mods to my DRRI and just figured I'd share them.

1. Weber mods. I did everything but the negative feedback mod. I ended up with a 10k resistor to set the midrange. Link below.

2. Fritz mod II. I replaced the other caps in the doghouse as well, being a 2002 model. Link below.

3. NOS RCA gray glass 6V6GT's, NOS RCA 5751 - V2, NOS RCA 12AU7 - V3, NOS JAN Phillips 12AT7 - V6, TAD GZ34. All the rest are stock.

4. Speaker upgrade was a toss up between a C-Rex and a '66 C12NA. I keep putting the C12NA back in, but the Eminence sounds good and will be better after break in. The stock Jensen sounded okay too, and was well broke in, but the nice break up with the C12NA is hard to beat. I also made up a better speaker wire and new angled plug. I would like to try a good alnico at some point.

5. Clipped the bright cap.

I did try the Fritz Mod One to begin with but after the other mod's it wasn't needed because the Vibrato channel was so much better. I also tried running the reverb through the normal channel input to add volume, treble and bass controls to the reverb, but didn't notice much of a difference. Plus I didn't like the idea of having an extra cord hanging out the front all the time.

I didn't care for the way this amp sounded stock. These mod's really helped. Much better bass response, midrange warmth and no ice-pick highs. Even before upgrading the stock tubes it was a big improvement. I've got it biased a little colder than the Weber mod's suggested with the RCA 6V6's.

I thought about just doing PTP on the whole thing but figured for a few bucks (not counting the tubes and I already had the speakers) I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did, it really did make a difference and is much more enjoyable playing now with singles or humbuckers.
