I have been having a problem with the overdrive kicking in occasionally by itself. I'm playing clean and then it jumps into overdrive ,then I have to step on the overdrive pedal to turn it off.
It also makes a noise when I step on the overdrive pedal.....very annoying.
Does anyone know a fix for this? Alan

Hi A.Nash,

Possibly you have a poor solder joint, or broken circuit trace in the +/- 16 volts supplies, particularly around the large white 5 watt resistors or Zener diodes, close to the middle of the main circuit board at the lower edge. The solder joints/traces are the most likely issue, with the next suspect being a faulty op-amp that controls the channel switching, or even a relay used for switching. The +/- 16 volt supplies provides power to the three op-amps that are used for channel switching, reverb and the effects loop. If it is the supply, sometimes you might also notice a problem with the reverb or effects loop along with channel switching problems.

In order to properly inspect the solder joints, you have to pull the main circuit board, being careful of the connections and ribbon cables attached to the board. Be aware of the lethal voltages in the amp, making sure that the amp is unplugged from electricity and the caps are discharged before working inside the amp.

Thanks Shimmilou,
Will try what you suggest. I've put up with the problem for years and can't wait to get it repaired. PS I have also had problems with the reverb as you mentioned in your post. Your worth your weight in gold....Regards....Alan
