Post subject: Hot Rod deluxe effects hook up Question???

I got my son a used Fender Hot Rod Deluxe this morning. before I got home to check it out he had hooked together some effects and plugged them into the guitar input instead of using the preamp out and power amp in he play around for awhile before i got home can this hurt the amp?

Overdrives, fuzzes, distortion, clean boosts and others typically plug into the guitar input. Time based devices like reverb, delay, phasers, etc. are typically plugged into the loop. Either way, it will not hurt the amp if they are plugged in differently. Only one of my four amps has a loop and I don't use it at all.

No.

Most stompboxes can be connected either way. However, some modulation effects (flange, chorus, etc) do not do well wired into a switchable loop. No harm will result but they often wreak havoc with the tone. Experimentation is the best method of determining if pedals and amps will "play nice together".
