I just bought a new Supersonic 22. When on the clean channel using the boast, there is a low jangle or buzz sound when playing an A or B barre cord. After about 15 or 20 minutes it will disappear. I took the back off and the preamp tube covers and gently tap on each with a pencil while the amp was turned on. The V3 (reverb) tube sounded as if broken glass was being shook in it and the reverb started going off. The reverb works, but sounds a little weak. Also the V5 (PI) tube had no red glow at all. It got a little warm to the touch, but not enough to make me pull my hand back. Is this common for the PI tube ? I was thinking maybe it doesn't run as hot as the other preamp tubes. Called my local amp repairman and told him about the noise of the tube. He says that kind of noise from a tube means it is not bad, but some kind of a problem with the board or with the reverb unit. I am having a hard time believing that any tube that sounds like broken glass is shaking in it isn't bad, but he an amp tech. Any thoughts, ideas, or similer expereneces ? Hate to return to GC for another, as this one is very quiet when channel switching and no hissing. Should I just buy a new 12AT7 despite what the amp tech stated and try it ? Thanks for any help.

Hi davthorn,

It would be easy enough to try a new 12AT7 in V3 for the reverb, good to have a spare in case it isn't the tube. Not all tubes show the orange glow from the heater.
