I have a BDRI with the stock GT 6L6-R High Red-10 power tubes that came with it. I replaced V1 with a JJ 5751, V2 with a JJ ECC83S and V3 with a JJECC81 and wanted to buy some power tubes to have in case one blows when playing.
My question is how much difference is there as far as staying clean and breaking up early between the Groove Tubes High Red 8-10 and the Medium White 4-7
Personally I find that the GT 6L6-R High Red 8-10 are too clean for my taste and was wondering maybe even going to the Groove Tubes Blue 1-3
Of course I know I would have to rebias if I changed the tubes to something other than the GT 6L6-R High Red-10 that are installed now.
Any suggestions??

That's kind of hard to quantify, other than to say it's definitely a noticeable difference. Comparing both ratings at the same bias current in the same amp, the Blue will give you breakup at a lower setting on the volume dial as compared to the Red, as well as a difference in touch sensitivity and warmth of tone. The White are in the middle, so not as much difference when changing from Red to White as there would be in changing from Red to Blue. If you get breakup above 5 on the volume dial with the Red, the Blue might give you breakup above 2 on the volume dial (it really depends on the type of amp, and the preamp tubes installed). The type of tube will also make a difference in the tone, such as the "R" version (kind of plain sound) compared to "C" version (a bit more breakup on the drive channel), or "S" version (a bit better harmonics on the clean channel), or "GE" version (a bit of vintage flavor, very good harmonics, and smooth on the drive channel).

Por favor, disculpe mi español, no se llega a la práctica con mucha frecuencia.

Thanks for the reply.........I am still unshure as what to do yet. I do know I have to do something as this amp ( Blues Deluxe Re-Issue ) is just too clean for me. It has opened up a lot since I changed all the pre-amp tubes but I am still thinking if I change out the GT-6L6-R rated 10 it will open up some more. I am looking for something in between my 5E3 and my Clapton Twinolux as far as breakup. The 5E3 is just all dirt all the time and the Twinolux is just right but I hate taking it out on gigs because of the size-weight not that the BDRI is that much lighter but it is a little smaller and lighter and cheaper if something bad happens to it and I can easily buy another one.

What are the current bias settings for the amp (both cathode voltage measured at the Fender test point and plate voltage). The spec bias (30 mA per tube) at the plate voltage on the schematic is too cold and will make the amp too clean. Regardless of the tubes you select, the bias should probably be set hotter.
