For my twin I use the Soul Food pedal for low natural amp break up at lower volume then use my Bogner pedals for more gain. Love the extra power and fuller tone

+1 But as far as the Twin not being good fir Blues, I'd have to disagree. All you need is a pedal.....................

Correct, I should have stated "on it's own".

+1, but you can still play blues clean if you want. It's a genre not a particular sound, think acoustic blues. But I still like some grit in me electric Blues. The Twin will be clean all day on its own, my 100 watt Twin was still clean way up the dial.

My 135-watt UL Twin Reverb will "grow a little hair" with the pre-amp volume maxxed out but it's really peach fuzz compared to something like a dimed Pro Reverb or Super Reverb.

If you like some serious hair, a Tweed Deluxe 5e53 would serve you well.

OR get the twin if you like it (it is quite a deal) and one of these for a tweed-like sound: https://www.geartree.com/p-39911-wample ... ables.aspx

My TRRI weighs about 65lbs. and that's not heavy. Find another 2-12 80-100 watt combo in that weight class. My DRRI weighs 45lbs. and my HRDlx3 weighs 45lbs.. I like them all. I use my TRRI to practice with in my studio. Its one of the best low volume amps I own. It sounds good loud or low, unlike my DRRI which sounds best with some volume.

I wanted to see if I can get some advice on some amps that I'm looking at getting. I was going to purchase either a fender blues Jr 3 or a Blackstar HT-5TH. I'm looking to get a Stevie Ray Vaughn and Joe Bonamassa sound, when a a coworker stepped in and said he'll sell me his Fender Twin Reverb for 500. Buts it's like 85 watts of pure tube, but man it's hard to pass up this deal, this amp is the holy Grail for blues. I would never be able to crank the twin past 3 at home. What do you all think?

I dont think any of those amps will get you a SRV or Bonamassa sound. For the most part they both used more than one amp at a time.

The twin may be your best bet. 500 bucks just buy it. The twin is an good amp and the other two are consumer products that you may have to mod to get what your looking for,and even then your not going to sound like the guys you want to sound like.

SRV used Supers and Vibroverbs in the early 80s,and was said to have used twins for a short time. Then you start to get into the dumble amps. He used Marshalls too. He started putting EV speakers in his amps too. Then you get into pedals. Next you have to be SRV. When Diaz was his tech,he was friends with the guy who works on my gear.

Bonamassa your looking at Marshall for the most part and a Marshall like blackstar may not get you to were you want to be at.

You can play blues on just about any style of amp. While some blues tones are known for some players using Fender amps, any amp that uses blues in the name is a marketing tool. You can use them for blues if you want. Dont get me started on the marketing term "tone woods" Ash is Ash,some may weight less,or more alive if you will are more alive. That another topic.

If volume is an issue find a decent pedal. If your looking for some breakup like I said a decent pedal. You could be on 2 or 3 on a twin with a good pedal and be "loud" but if your crank a Blues Jr. or Blackstar you may be in the some territory anyway.

Speaking for myself if you want to hear what an amp can to you need to turn it up past 2 and not give a $@!& if anyone likes it or not.

Seems like you answered your own question. If the Twin is calling you, go to it.
