No need for debate with me, I don't have a dog in this fight.

Tell it to the parents and the widows and the orphans who had to bury their loved ones.

Arjay

I stopped reading as soon as I saw that "They tested positive for marijuana."
In my particular field, alcohol and drug testing play a large role in my job and I know quite a lot about D&A testing. I get tested a number of times each year myself .... prior to entry to any site I work at and I also send folks for testing for cause as part of my job. I have to know about the testing methods and the protocols and I have to know and follow and ensure my workers know and follow the chain of custody.

They are working on better tests but they haven't come out with a solution to the problem yet. The problem is that marijuana testing does not identify intoxication like alcohol testing does with the breathalyzer. It only identifies prior use. It's just one more reason out of the great many reasons that D&A testing on the job is continually under attack. The urine test absolutely does not and cannot prove intoxication. It only proves that the person at some point in the previous days or weeks metabolized the drug. As a non-user myself, if I were to have a few tokes with some friends today, I'd get high for a few hours and the experience would be over and I'd be straight again but I would fail a D&A test for days after. If I was on some kind of weekend long party and stayed stoned the whole weekend smoking every couple of hours I would still be straight after a few hours of stopping but now I would fail a D&A test for at least a week after the fact. Chronic users need about a month. D&A tests prove nothing except that the person has done it at some point. Urine testing for marijuana looks for THC metabolites. A metabolite is what is left in the body after the THC has been processed. People will wrongly argue that the THC is therefore still in the body's system and the person is under the influence. That is incorrect. THC is an intoxicant. THC metabolites are not.

Did you get that speaker yet. I was enjoying mine last night for a while. Tuning to 432 really trances me out too.

Another story.

Look forward to impressions.

Probably this coming Friday they said when ordering.

Of course I won't know how much I like it until I get 'er broke in, which may take some time as I live where I can't crank the amp until summer when the snow birds fly off. So at lower volumes it will take a month of daily play....

You need not aurally-abuse your neighbors. Even vigorous play at modest volume levels will contribute to the break-in protocols. About forty to fifty hours should provide sufficient "aging".

Is there any reason to take it easy with a new speaker, can you crank it immediately, or should you ease into it?

Actually, while the C-rex does of course break-in (and require longer than other speakers, reportedly, due to the hemp cone), that speaker actually sounds great right out-of-the-box. And it does change, but not alot. If you like it out of the box, you'll love it once it's broken in.

If you DON'T like it out of the box, you probably won't care for it after break-in either.

It's not like a Jensen or Weber jenson copy, where the high end mellows considerably after break-in. The C-rex doesn't change much. I liked my C-rex the day I put it in my SS22, and I LOVE it now that it's broken in.

If it sounds anything near what my hemp cone Eminence Lil Buddy in my Super Champ X2 sounds like, I am going to love the thing. Although the Lil Buddy took a little breaking in. I was at my Sister In Laws house in Northern California, and my niece of the band Grace in The Woods http://www.reverbnation.com/graceinthewood was having an afternoon gig nearby, so they came in to our cabin to rehearse (we sometimes get our own cabin when we visit there) So they hooked up to my Super Champ X2 for the guitarist Neem Wood for the rehearsal set and they were playing a bit louder than I do but I let it go on anyways. Lo and behold, when I got home and plugged it in, it sounded a bunch smoother than it did before I brought it up there. (Although I did not have many hours on the Lil Buddy before that trip).

Crank'er up amigo, that is what I would do if I could right out of box after a short warm up. And I will as soon as the snow birds fly in the late spring.......

Hemp cones do seem to take longer before the cone, suspension, and surround begin to shed their stiffness. Hemp-cone Tone Tubby's typically take 75 to 80 hours before the audible "sweet spot" is reached.

I love the C-Rex I put into my custom cab… I couldn't tell ya how may hours it has on it but I love the way it sounds. I'm only pushing it with a 15 watt head and it sounds HUGE!

Thanks all with your replies and advice. Seems like the C-Rex is the right choice. If it is as good as the Lil Buddy, it won't be disappointing.....

I'll tell you DBM, the Crex is a monster of sound compared to the lil buddy. It is another species of hemp speaker and I really love it.

Same great tone but so beefy with its articulation.

C-Rex in da house. Installation when I get the time maybe the weekend maybe sooner. In the amp is an Eminence Tonespotter a wonderful speaker which I will keep in case I blow the C-Rex somehow someday....... I also have 2 EVM12L's each in a 1-12 open back cab in my climate controlled shed/office/studio. And the stock X2 speaker in the Lil Buddy's box up on a shelf in there. Now to make room for the Tonespotter and Weber beam blocker.

Interesting stuff BMW-KTM, thanks for sharing.

Hey Desertbluesman, do you think there would be a problem at the airports with the sniffer dogs and that speaker in the amp should you need to fly with it somewhere for a gig?
