A 4 ohm speaker and an 8 ohm speaker, wired in series would produce what ohmage?

12 ohms in series.

2.66 ohms in parallel.

Big Thanks, Bill. :D

 Shows ya what I know! I better stick to teaching English and leave the electronics to the experts. :)

I appreciate the effort(s) of anyone who wished to assist me. It comes from the 'right' place. :D

...the answer with the formula for the answer would be much appreciated...

In the case of any number of speakers or resistors wired in series, you can simply add their respective impedance values together. For parallel wiring of two or more, use the formula 1/(1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 + ....) add as many Rx as you have speakers/resistors. If there are only two speakers/resistors in parallel you can use; (R1 x R2)/(R1 + R2).

For series/parallel wiring such as in many 4x12 cabs, it can be a little more complicated to figure the total impedance. There can be two pairs of speakers, each pair in series, and each series pair in parallel with the other series pair (First pic A). Or, there can be two pairs of speakers, each pair in parallel, and each parallel pair in series with the other parallel pair (Second pic B). In either case of series/parallel wiring, with all speakers being equal impedance rating, the total will equal the value of one speaker. Example, four 8 ohm speakers wired series/parallel, the total will be 8 ohms regardless of which of the two methods are used.

There can also be four speakers wired in parallel (simply use the formula given above), or four speakers wired in series (simply add the impedance values).

Cool... wow, this is like going to school! Which by the way, I would have loved to do for something like electronics or engineering despite struggles with math. I have an Uncle who was an electrical engineer in the Army and then went on to be an engineer for Kodak... it's fascinating talking with him about my guitar projects as he knows so much about how all this works and could basically build a guitar from scratch if he took a mind to. It's one of those things that the more I practice, the more I learn (like anything). I usually have one "ah-ha" moment every time I build something. I'm going to copy and paste these diagrams someplace in case I have future questions or decide to build another cab some day... cheers gentlemen!

...the 2 to 1 ratio...

To be clear, I mean within a 2 to 1 ratio. So for an 8 ohm amp, 4 ohms, 5 ohms, 6 ohms, ..... all the way up to 16 ohms, is within that ratio, and perfectly fine.
