I'm going to make the move to a good tube amp after using a hybrid Marshall 50 for awhile. I's a good amp but I really want to get a tube amp now that I can afford it. I'm thinking either the Deluxe Reverb reissue or the Vibrolux Reverb. I am looking for the clean Fender tube tone and the reverb with tremelo doesn't hurt either. The price is close between the two, within 100 bucks, and the big difference seems to be that the Vibrolux has 2-12 inch Jensons while the Deluxe has one. I've played the Deluxe but not the Vibro. Is there a big difference besides the wattage, is the sound pretty close? I don't need to blow my doors off, I've played a twin and it was great but I can't crank it at home anyway so it would be kind of a waste of all that power. Any suggestions? :?:

I highly suggest the DRRI. I love mine. I can't imagine a better clean tone out there anywhere. It works as a great recording and bedroom amp for me, plus I can gig with it too.

Both great amps. Try them both side by side. I had a 64 Vibrolux for close to 30 years. It was an incredible amp. It was stolen after a gig otherwise I'd still have it.

Depending on the music you play, the Deluxe Reverb may not have enough headroom. I know, some people say if a Deluxe Reverb isn't loud or clean enough, then you're playing too loud. If clean is what you're looking for, be sure to compare them both. They are both incredible amps, just very different. Only you can tell what you like and need.
The Vibrolux has two 10" speakers not 12". The tens give the amp a tighter more focused tone. It also has 40 watts. I found it a bit more versatile the a Deluxe Reverb. But again, it depends on your needs.
The cleanest Fender amp I've ever owned was a 76 Twin reverb.

I'm assuming you are referring to the current production model, Custom Vibrolux Reverb. It's not the same amp as a vintage vibrolux revderb.

The current CVR is a tone monster IMO. No doubt one of the best amps I have ever played. It is very different from the DRRI...which is a great amp too. They are just different in tone capabilities.

I highly recommend that you play these to hear the difference and read up on the CVR.

I will recommend the deluxe reverb too - you can really push up the volume and there's just no breakup!

Every Deluxe Reverb I've ever played breaks up. I've played them on and off from the late 60's through the reissues. That's the beauty of it. It has that sweet smooth buttery natural tube distortion that responds well to volume changes on the guitar. It starts to break up between 4-6 depending on what tubes you run in it.
The new Custom Vibrolux Reverb is not a reissue of the original. They did some modifications to the original circuit. It's still a sweet amp with a bit more headroom. Remember, just because the DRRI is 22 watts and the CVR is 40 watts, does not mean the CVR is twice as loud.

Fair enough - I played a friend's though and he has replaced the tubes and speaker so that's probably why!

I love my DRRI - it sounds sooooooo sweet and it's relatively light for a nice little tube amp. My old Twin was fantastic but I got tired of lugging all that weight...still wish I had it though...

Same here. The Twin is an awesome amp, but after lugging mine for 30 years, it got to be too much. If I had a Roadie, I'd still have it.

 yeah - my roadie (I mean son) just moved into his own place recently, so now I'm on my own for lugging gear.

Yep, Me too. I might just try throwing a mic in front of my Champ Amp or my Pignose amp. I mean Frank Zappa did it. :D

My setup is a hwy one thru a budda wah-tube screamer-boss delay-amp
I love playing clean blues and then hitting the tube screamer for distortion. I'm sure either Fender amp will sound awesome with that setup,
I just haven't been able to find the Vibro to try it out.
