How do i use just the speaker? I dont want to run my Greta from the amped output into my amped input on the Excelsior. So, how do I bypass the tubes on my Excelsior.

So you want to run the Greta through the Excelsior's speaker?

The only way to do that would be to physically disconnect the Excelsior's internal speaker cable from the amp output and run it from the Excelsior's speaker to the Greta's speaker output (assuming it has one). You must remember to NOT turn on the Excelsior when operated this way or you will destroy the amp.

Hardly worth the effort in my opinion.

Make a cable with a 1/4 mono plug on one end, speaker cable in the middle, and speaker tabs on the other end. Be sure to observe the stripe on the wire and keep it consistent with positive or negative. Disconnect the tabs from the excelsior to its own speaker and unplug the excelsior.

Now connect your cable from the speaker out jack on the Greta to the tabs on the Excelsior speaker.

Disadvantages - PIA, unwieldy, could damage tabs if you jostle amp like that, could forget or screw up and fry one or both amps, probably some way you can shock yourself or start a fire.

That said, I did this all the time back when I had a PicoValve and wanted to try it out with my various speakers and was too cheap to buy a proper cabinet.

You're making it too complicated. Pull the lead (1/4" plug) out of the Excelsior amp. Use a 1/4" female/female coupler and run a speaker cord from it to the Greta's external cab jack. That's all.

And do follow bluesky636's warning on NOT turning on the Excelsior with it's speaker disconnected.

oh cool. I didn't know the Excelsior had a lead like that. All my amps have the speaker cord hard wired in.

The Excelsior's 15" is pretty cool. I'll occasionally play my 65 or 68 DR through it...
