Maybe they'll start making them in China, or Indonesia. The lead paint might just be the cure--WHO KNOWS?

I bought a Hot Rod Deluxe III --Red October --limited edition (real pretty red), brand spankin' new. I don't play for a living, so the amp was intended to be used primarily in the studio. After no more than 50 hours of use (owned for a year and a half), amp started making the same sound (farting, almost like blown speaker). Wishing now I hadn't, I took the amp to the store where I bought it. I was called when the repairs were finished, and hit in the face with a $129.00 bill, for re-tube, and some "minor soldering". The very same evening I'd paid the bill and picked up the amp, I went to play a benefit show. No more farting sound, but in the middle of the show the amp just went completely silent! I came home, and the next day the amp was working...however...I rehearsed with a new group last week and once again--here we go with the farting. At this point, I'm stuck with a piece of junk. I'm too honest to sell it to someone, knowing it's trash, and even if I were to sell it I'm going to lose money. I own a "67 Princeton, and a ''77 Super Twin Reverb, both of these amps were used regularly with no problems. Each of the vintage amps still have the original tubes and neither has ever been in the shop. I've read about other's having the same exact problems, so I know I'm not the only one who's been disappointed :!:

Fender amps have a 5 year warranty. Why did you get a repair bill? There is nothing inherently wrong with the amp. The "tech" that "repaired" it, on the other hand, needs to find a new line of work.

Tube replacement, or so I was told. Tube warranty-90 days. Immediately after picking up the amp from shop I went to play a gig. Middle of gig amp shut down completely. Don't think tubes would have been the cause of that. Turned it on the next day and it was working again. I'm turning 56 years old on the 21'st of this month--owned a few amps, never had this problem before--shouldn't happen with a brand new Fender with less than 50 hours on it. Go figure, pretty sure I haven't forgotten to plug it in, turn it on, take it out of stand by--oh yeah, and definitely had my Lipstick Red Strat plus plugged in--oh yeah, and tried a couple of cables--oh yeah, had the other guitar player plug his Strat in, with his cable. Can't think of anything else...

It sounds to me like some poor solder joint(s) in the amp. Likely, most of the tubes that were replaced were good, and the "tech" used the shotgun approach and also did a poor job of inspecting the joints. You probably had one bad preamp tube and poor solder joint(s), and the joints weren't addressed. My guess, the joints that were easily accessible might have been touched up, but the main board was not pulled for proper inspection.

I think you're exactly right! I had the work done where I bought the amp. I didn't expect the guy to screw me, it's a small local shop that deals in expensive, high end gear and vintage guitars. In most part he's over priced on his guitars and you're lucky if he'll even sell something at retail price! This being said, one would think that he'd want to take care of a local customer. I was told that he had to do some soldering that wasn't done at the factory, but that Fender doesn't solder those points even though it would make the amp perform better. It sounded a little strange, but I'm not an expert in electronics. I trusted that if it were warrantied work, he'd have honored it. At this point I'm not sure exactly sure what to believe. I called Fender and complained and they're sending me another set of tubes--which restored some of my faith in the company which I've been a loyal customer since the 1960's. What concerns me is that I've read several comments on other forums where others have experienced the same problems I've had with this amp, in fact there's even a youtube video with someone's amp making the identical noise. Thanks for your input I think you're probably right, it only makes me sad to think that this guy would take advantage of me.

Tubes can fail because of bad solder joints. I have never heard of a solder joint fail because of a tube. I wonder if this guy is even a certified Fender amp tech?

According to Fender, he's the closest one to me! My problem is that I know nothing about electronics, I can only go by what he tells me. I had a pretty bad feeling about the way it all went down, but once the work was done (if he did any work) it was too late. What should I have said, or what could I have said? I figured it would have been a warranty job. I made a huge mistake assuming he would have called before doing a job that was going to cost so much! Live and learn?

Bad solder points & marginal components can rear their ugly faces when the amp is cold, then go away when the amp warms up. Or just the opposite --- ok when cold, then hinky when warm. Ideally, the tech should try to find poor solder points and marginal components, when amp has only been on for a few moments. Then again, at stages while the amp warms up --- for a few hours.

A certified Fender tech should not have charged you anything to fix a new amp. Brand new Hot Rods should come with a 5-year warranty and Fender should make this right. I feel for you, I have been screwed over by more than one of these clowns, but never on an active Fender warranty. Good luck to you.

Thanks, guess I've got no choice but to eat this one, can't go back and change it. Won't buy from this guy again. Bad thing is, I paid close to list price for the amp, just to support local business. Do someone a favor and they'll end up hating you for it...right?

Oh, It has been a long time since I check this post,
I have replaced all 3 preamp tube with JJ tube
but the problem is still exist but worst.

The noise is exist in the very begining, no need to wait.
Should I change the power tube as well?

Might as well. Make sure they are properly biased while you are at it.

All tubes replaced...no difference! Might as well sell it for parts, shouldn't sell to someone without warning them, wouldn't be honest.
Good luck!
