From another site (FYI):

" Question: Does the new TS reissue 5AR4 have more voltage output than the Sovtek 5AR4?"

" Answer: I don't know, I haven't got any amps here that use 5AR4s so I can't test.

I've seen reports (not specifically about the T-Sol, about vacuum rectos in general) that the tonal and transient response quality will vary from tube to tube even within the same brand. Also, the voltage output does vary from tube to tube - at least by some degree. I doubt those two facts are a coincidence. "

Seems that the new issued 5AR4/GZ34 can vary a bit more than NOS (Mullard, Sylvania, or GE). Rolling a few may help.

I am always suspicious when I see supposed reissue as TS 12 AX7. From what I've seen these copies is nothing to do with genuine TS.

They can be good when compared to the poor quality of recent tubes.

I'd be interested in that also.Installed a Sovtek in amp just before the holidays and so far so good.At that time it measured 419/420(drri).
Hi stratele52,I have some reissue TS 12ax7s in amp now, they are holding up quite well, very pleased with them so far.Its only been a couple of months and hopefully I'll get some years of service from them?I can say that they are as quiet now as when they were installed.

I'm sure they might be good tube but not better than other modern brand.

They never be "the Graal " like real Tung Sol of the old days . These are like fake Tung Sol to me.

No information on the New Sensor page as of yet.Found this for the Sovtek brand,http://www.svetlana.com/pdf/sovtek/5ar4-sovtek.pdf.
Stratele52 you wouldn't happen to have pair of each, that you could A/B against.I don't own a set of original TS 12ax7s,if you wouldn't mind sharing your thoughts I'd certainly appreciate it.

Not Stratele, but I do have NOS Tungsol 12AX7A and new issued TS (Russia) 12AX7. There is no tonal similarity. The original USA made ones have a warm midrange, very good bass, clean high. The new issued one have more high end response (some think a bit too bright), good bass. But, not the warmth in the mids, like the original ones.

The original TS last forever. I have heard of some new issued TS (Russia) getting noisy after a few months of hard use. These Russian made ones sound more like the 1980-90's Tungsrams ECC83/12AX7. But, not the crazy aggressive tone of the Hungarian Tungsrams, when pushed.

My favorite 12AX7 I used to compare all other ECC83 and 12AX7 to, is the Raytheon BP 12AX7A. That and the Raytheon windmill getter 5751.

+1 BMW2002Ti

rythmism,

That'is what I see with old and original Tungsol . As BMW202Ti write ,no tonal similarity and original TS last forever.

I hate when company bough a brand name and built a fake.

As I write , this new TS could be a good tube but not better than other new one , Sovtek , JJ's TAD Electro Harmonix ...name it

A lot of musical-instrument companies seem to have done that......

By natural extension, one must wonder if Amplifier Manufacturers (Fender amongst them) must somehow adapt their design/manufacturing to maintain a given performance with the available Tube Stock?

If not, then it would seem they are forced to produce an inferior product.

Perhaps they simply don't care as people will buy these amps anyway simply because it's all that's out there to satisfy demand.

cheers!

Well BMW,I'll have to keep my eyes open for some NOS.Thanks once again for your information and to stratele52.It really does perk my interest in what this amp would sound like with the better tubes?
The link I posted doesn't seem to work for me,here is the home page(copy/paste).
http://svetlana.com/TubeSpecification.aspx
You guys probably already have the information, but if anyone else is following along. Its up top,Tubes/Spec FAQ.
Good question Lightnin MN,where is the ball going to drop?Is it up to the equipment manufacturers to design around the current reissue tubes or the tube manufacturers to bring up the quality of tubes to meet the demands of current equipment?New Sensor bought the patents for Mullard and Tung-Sol?,in doing so don't they have specific guidelines or construction parameters to meet the patent requirements?

All manufacturer say they built tubes like original tubes specs . IMO quality control , low quality parts sometimes , not always ( ? ) give us the tubes we have on the market . We never know what whe buy .

What Fender could do ? Except manufacturing is own tubes !

An example of this is the 57 Tweed Deluxe issued with a 12ax7 in v1, not even the correct designated tube for that position on a 5E3. A 12ay7 is the designated tube for that amp, Fender just figured if people want a Fender branded 5E3 (and some do) they will take the one with the incorrectly supplied v1 tube, even though the amp sounds (and feels) way better with the correct tube. That amp was a premium product out of the Custom Shop too!
