OK, I have two amp scenarios I'm trying to decide between, keep in mind I want a pretty good amount of distortion.

First Choice: The Fender '59 Bassman LTD with Fulltone Plimsoul.

Second Choice: The Fender Super Sonic 60.

I'm kinda on the fence at the moment, just wondering which scenario would sound best and if anyone has any experience's with these two or some amps that are similar, thanks for any input.

I'd go for the SS60. I've got it and I love it :D Sure, it's very loud although the extra headroom is always good to have. The tone - absolutely fantastic, both the clean and the burn channel. You can get the bluesy overdriven sound from the burn channel and the metal-ish sound and everything in between as well, as far as OD goes :)

Check for my longer post (about 3rd one in the thread or so) for more info about the SS60 and a couple of tricks - how to use the SS's FX loop as a booster for solos or how to get the tube distortion at a normal volume level by using the FX loop, etc. - in this thread:

59 Bassman you get great blues tones and turn it up and get overdriven sound that will give you a woddie

The Bassman is certainly the more iconic amp, but at the sound levels you have to turn it up to to "get a woody" from it's glorious overdrive, will have club owners telling you you're too loud. You'd need an attenuator.

SO- since you're thinking of a pedal for dirt (nothing wrong with that), I say as a WORKING amo- gigging- the SS60. Clean or dirty or in-between, no pedal or attenuator needed.

That being said, if you have "always wanted a Bassman", you won't be happy until to own one... at least for awhile. I'm in the same boat right now, having a SS22 but still wanting a '57 Bandmaster. :D

linnin of linningrad. :D

Maybe get the Bassman. And mic it when neccesary. If you are into Blues, I would think Bassman is a natural choice.

Or the ubiquitous and contentious Vaporizer! :D

With all the hubbub --- makes one want to jet down to GC and give the darn thing a spin. Almost.

I like the bassman with the pedal option. The pedal should help keep the volume down if you need it to be.

Let me get a plug in for Lovepedal here. Works great and you can still use your volume control on your guitar to go from clean to mean.

I used an attenuator with a Vicky 45410. But they are not meant to knock it down to house or bedroom levels. You still need to play at a level loud enough to to benefit from the power tubes cooking and the speakers moving. To try and keep the club owners off your back. But I played at home with it too.

I liked the attenuator and plugging straight in,control the amp with your guitar. Weber made me a 2 ohm one and it worked well. Still sounded like the amp.

But you can do the same thing with a good pedal.

Myself I like to play loud even at home. We all tolerate each other one way or another in the neighborhood. I just dont play loud early in the morning or after 10 pm.

Two questions, does the super sonic 60 have true all tube distortion? Also, does it have a bias pot?

Thanks

That's what I've done, bought the SS22, selling my other amps, the SS22 is versatile enough to "hold me" until I've gotten a 57 Bandmaster (RI).
