Hello! I have been reading many posts in this forum as a result of google searches for my amp. Since buying it on CL last spring ($430 CAN) I recently swapped out the Emminence speaker for a WGS ET-65 and then I swapped out the 12AX7 tube in V1 for a 12AY7 (Electro Harmonics) and this helped with the volume issue (although it is not as hot). I should mention that I also am using a Recycled Sound Power Plug 6/12 attenuator. All this allows me to run the volume comfortably at around halfway.
I was not aware the there was no bias dial for my amp when I swapped out the Fender power tubes with a matched set of Ruby 6L6GCMSTR. Sounds pretty good so far but as I said I have not biased the amp.
So that's where I am at in my tube tweaking journey. I thought I'd post here if I am missing something or have gone off track.
BTW, the music I play is alt country/Americana/Blues/Roots type thang.
Peace.

Much of what I have written in this thread can be applied to your amp.

Adding a bias pot is easy. There are several kits to do it, or if you are smart, you can figure it out easily enough.

Bluesky your posts were very informative and were among those I read recently, thanks.
What are the opinions of the effects loop. Do most folk use it? Or does it weaken or alter the signal too much? Also is there any danger to using the amp before I get it biased with the new power tubes? I might just put the Fender tubes back in there. I just put the Rubys in as a test and didn't really hear much difference, both sound good.

Fender tends to bias those amps pretty cold from the factory in order to promote power-tube longevity. If yours sounds "pretty good" right now, it might be wise to leave well enough alone. Adding a bias pot will provide some flexibility when it comes to selecting new bottles but working inside these PCB amps is no walk in the park -- you must know what you're doing and be well-acquainted with delicate soldering techniques.

I hear you. I will most likely get a tech to install a bias pot after I digest all this new information thoroughly. I have been reading all the advice offered to the Italian fellow and am nowhere near being able to absorb much of it.

I don't use the effects loop. In fact, I have considered taking it out of the amp as I feel that the preamp out circuit adds an unnecessary load on the amp. Just haven;t goten around to it.

You should not install tubes different from what came stock in the amp without rebiasing them. Once a bias pot is installed, you can run pretty much any type of 5881/6L6GC tube (and some 6V6 tubes) that you desire with proper bias.

With a bias pot installed, you don't need to worry about tube "grades".

Just what the modern amp forum needs......a "loaded" comment that will gestate into another ten-page circle-jerk.
