I don't mind new amps. In fact, I prefer new amps over old ones. But only if high quality; built to last, and to be serviced.
Consumerist amps are destined for the landfill. You can't repair them with generic parts, and the manufacturer will only carry replacements for a few years.

Also, I don't like form over function. Every dollar spent on the looks is a dollar not spent on the sound quality. There's nothing magic about Tolex that makes the amps better, but it's cheap, relatively sturdy, and repairable. That means more money can go towards better inside design.

I agree, and just because an amp is covered in Tweed doesn't really make it a vintage Tweed amp. In the realm of Fender, Tweed also refers to the circuit used in those gloroue sounding amps, just like NOS means "old new stock" not I covered this amp in tweed and put a HRD series chassis in it.

As far as the old fart patrol, see if your HRD or Pawn Shop series amp is around forty or fifty years from now. If it wasn't for the old fart patrol reminding Fender of how great their amps were, all we would have is cheesy looking, sounding cheap amps. The amps and guitars that everyone is whining about being soooo expensive really aren't. My Strat in 1972 was $300 with the case is close to $1700 in today's economy. If we demand quality, we may get it. Personally, as a professional freelance photographer, I'd rather do one job at $1,000 than do 10 jobs at $100 each. My gear has to work day in, day out and I pay what some people call a lot of money for it. There are many "cool" looking amps that sound great and are seriously reliable, but you will pay a decent buck or should I say what the amps is worth for them.

Here's my problem. I play for money, not just in my bedroom or house, not just for friends or to look cool for the girlfriend. It's a business that requires my equipment to work every time I fire it up. I have backup gear so I'm covered. If my stuff stops working, my client gets ticked and I might possibly lose them. I have a 74 Champ that is still sounding great and never saw the inside of a shop. I can actually do small gigs with it through larger speaker cabs. It was designed as a practice amp or "student model" that still works and is reliable after 40 years. That's the difference. Years ago the practice amps were built just as well as professional amps. That's why I build my own amps. If I bought a new amp it would be a Victoria or Carr, not Fender. There is something to be said about hand wired amps that you only need to buy once.

Buy what suits you and your needs, but don't think we're just a bunch of old farts because we want something better. For the record, that's Geezer Patrol.

Well yes we have vastly different circumstances and I understand your point of view.

I just question the value of all you geezers piling onto every thread about an exciting new Fender amp with your "My 1974 Champ is far superior" stories.

The Vaporizer could be a dog, or it could be $399 worth of fun for very many people. That's less than the cost of an Xbox or a Playstation, and far easier to justify for many people with tight budgets but who might be making more money in a few years. It is better for Fender to get these people in the door, and put some smiles on their faces, than to give them the cold shoulder.

That's your opinion and you're certainly entitled to it. I played Fender amps for over forty years and trusted the name. My 76 Twin served me faithfully for over 30 years. I didn't need that much power or weight anymore so I sold it instead of shoving it in a closet. I then bought a HRdlx and that POS spent more time in the shop than it did on a stage so I dumped it and bought an Egnater, so far so good with that one. I also bought one of the original GDecs as a cheap practice tool. That had a data wheel failure so I'm done with Fender amps. Then I built two amps a 5 watt tube powered recording amp and a 5e3 clone. The 5e3 I built is by far the most toneful amp I've had in ages. It cost me six hundred bucks including a Weber Alnico speaker and the time to build it.

I look at it this way. If you buy a lower end Fender amp and it goes up in smoke you may regret going through that door and never buy another Fender amp.

This can be ameliorated somewhat if Fender is prepared to aggressively honor their 5 year warranty.

Sure, or you can spend 5 years humping your amp back and forth to the repair shop instead of using it.

I'd rather have a stage king than a hangar queen.

Do any of you guys putting this amp down own one or have tried it yet? I bought one as soon as I could and guess what, was not disappointed at all in any way. I fact I love the amp and will post a video of my showing it off and playing with it. You guys are missing out, and I really don't care if you hate it. I think Fender is really trying new things when everyone else is trying to copy the past, amps today have no personality and the pawn shop series of amps is amazing especially for the price!

Oh, I'll try one. So far I've tried everything Fender has put out all the way down to the Greta. Didn't like that one either. Again, sounded like a toy. I'm glad you like your amp. I've already seen the demo and was not impressed in the least, but It's not me playing it and it's not live. I would have higher hopes if I wasn't so disappointed in both the Excelsior, and the Ramparte. Some people will like it some won't, it depends on your frame of reference, mine goes back to 1966. My local Sam Ash doesn't have them in the store yet, but Guitar Center says they might have them in the next week or two. I will try one and if I'm wrong, I'll say so no problem.

One look at the innards tells me everything I need to know.

Every wonder how they keep that price low?

I will rip mine apart to show the insides? I just took a video of me playing with the amp and am uploading it now, but its taking forever. I know its inexpensive, but I like it and it is really built well as far as I have seen, I really wasn't happy with the excelsior not having reverb, but I got over it with my delay pedal, and the ramparte I wont try because its only 8 watts? At least I can use this amp live, its loud for what it is.

There's not much difference between 8 and 12 watts. I actually play small gigs with my 5 watter I built or my old Champ and an extension cab. A five watt tube amp will sound quite a bit louder than a 5 watt SS amp. Actually, my Champ blows my GDec 30 away volume and tone wise. But like I said, not a whole lot of difference between 8 and 12. What helps with the Vaporizer are the two tens. It moves a good bit of air.

I agree, I have a blues jr chassis I put in a 4x10 bassman cab and it really sounds the best! but I love the Vaporizer with 2x10's I actually have a couple nice speakers for the amp too! A celestion gold and greenback. I plan on doing some gigs with the amp as soon as I can!
