I just can't leave things alone! I hope it's okay to post other amps - this does have a Fender shade to it. I picked up a NOS SJ12T for a project, still new in the wrapper. Didn't care for the tone. Tried a few swaps with tubes and speakers with some improvement but the most effective change was to a "real" white pine cab I had built a while back for an extension cab. With a jig saw in one hand and a bottle of tolex glue in the other, off I went. Not only did it cut the weight down but it warmed up the amp considerably. I've always steered toward real wood on my builds, but this amp in an A/B comparison was two totally different amps. I'll do some tranny and other circuit mods also but the cabinet is chiseled in stone, or should I say tweed.

Happy New Year to all.

A superbly nice conversion worthy of the effort!

8)

How about some overall pics of the amp from the front, rear, and quarter views?

Rawk on!

Agreed, POV amp porn has some drawbacks.

I wouldn't mind seeing some gut shots of the innards as well.

Here's a couple more. I haven't had a chance to clean up the excess glue yet. I ran out of bigger lacquered tweed pieces for the back panels so I had to splice. It should clean up well. I'll post some innards soon, but it's em' - uh' - oh' - GREENBOARD! (I'm partial to wires)

I settled on TAD 6L6WGC's, a JJ 803S for V1 and a JJ 83S for V2.

I'm seriously thinking of doing a 5E3 build for this ampeg chassis now. They are already kind of low/bass ended to begin with, so it could work.

What's next?

Is that a ReverbRocket cab? I'd redo the thing to the 7591 sub-type RvR. One of the best amps I've ever owned --- a long time ago. I did get a 1961 Ampeg Jet a couple of years ago. These things give you a unique tone. For an amp the size of a PR or DR.

The old ampegs were fantastic amps.

Looks like a Superjet cab.

OP, are you mad? You want to put a 5E3 amp in an Ampeg cab, and you put an Ampeg amp in a tweed cab. Muwhahahahaha!

It's known as "chassis trans-migration".
