Hey guys,

I'm pretty new at the amp thing as I've played mostly acoustic for the short time that I have played guitar. Found a used American Standard Strat that a friend of a friend had for sale, and now I'm looking for a decent amp for it. Well, turns out a buddy I went to college with has one he'll sell me for $500. Neither him or I know anything about it other than he said it is a Hot Rod Deluxe III. He said he thinks it is some sort of limited edition but I can't find this particular one anywhere online. I want to know if this is a decent deal or not? As I mentioned, I don't know a lot about amps but this thing sounds pretty amazing on the "clean" channel. I just want to make sure I'm getting my moneys worth. Any help would be appreciated in figuring out what this thing is worth. Thanks in advance!

You can find used standard HRD amps anywhere on the planet for about a hundred bucks less. Your guitar won't know the difference between chartreuse tweed and lavender Tolex, trust me.

Thanks for the reply!

So you're saying this amp isn't worth the $500 price tag? I'm certainly OK with paying less but this one is available ASAP haha

I'm with you on the guitar won't know the difference between limited edition or not, but I guess other than getting a rough appraisal on this amp I kinda also wanted to know why I cannot find this particular one online anywhere. I almost started pondering if perhaps this one was a fake(if there is such a thing with fender amps).

Anyways, thanks again for the insight

+1

Every......single......day.

Plus untold dozens of them on local Craig's List sites across the country.

I've seen them listed for as low as $365.

That's the exact same amp I have. It's not quite the standard version. Aside from the cosmetic differences it has an upgraded speaker- Celestion I think. Mine was 799 new. If it is only 2-3 years old and is in good shape 500 is not that bad.
