I know that the BDRI is supposed to run 6L6GC/5881, but has anybody tried anything else?
Since the RI has the bias adjustment knob can you put anything else in it?

Short answer: No.

The replacement tube must have same pinout and ballpark wattage ratings as the OEM 6L6GC. To use another tube, it must be designed to handle the plate voltages you are applying to the output tube's anode. And run in the idle wattage range of the original tube, for your bias control to be within effective adjustment range.

There quite a few 6L6GC type tubes available. What are you looking for? More bass? Better midrange? Cleaner headroom? Earlier or later onset of OD?

BMW2002Ti is incorrect.

Electro-Harmonix 6V6GT and JJ 6V6S tubes are quite capable of handling the voltages of the BDRI and will bias up fine. You may or may not like the sound of them. I tried both and did not like either.

You might want to review the tube discussions in my thread on modifying the BDRI:

You can also use the GT 6V6 S (S version only).

That was all that was left of my answer, which was nearly the same as yours, as when I clicked submit, I saw that you had beaten me to the punch yet again.
