The baffle board, with attached grill cloth, is easily removed without having to remove the chassis. Remove both back panels first. Then four wood screws, one at at each inside front corner, boom, pops right out. Actually easier to do with the amp on its side on a bench, but that's just me. Don't forget to unplug the speaker cable first and stick the plug to the back of the speaker magnet. Make a note of the orientation of the speaker cable connection on the speaker. Usually it's at about 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock when the speaker is on the baffle.

Read this twice:
When installing, get two of the mounting holes in the speaker frame lined up with two mounting bolts closest to each other. You don't need to line all the bolts up, just the two you can see in front of you. Once those two are started, you can gently lower the speaker down onto the remaining bolts. Hold the speaker by the magnet with both hands. Both hands.

Of course, YMMV.

I've installed the eminence cannabis rex in my DRRI Ltd ands sounds amazing. It originally came with a
Jensen P12Q, it's a nice speaker, but the volume is way too low when jamming out with friends,
Imho it's a better match for the blues jr.
I swapped the speaker about 4 times, back and forth, I questioned my own judgement.
There's alot of rave over the P12Q, but the early break up is way to early for me, and I love OD and distortion.
I've removed the chassis and the baffle board, and I agree with evets, it's way easier.
The only thing you have to be careful, the speaker casing not to touch a transformer, it made a horrible tube rattle through the amp on mine.

Yup, too true. I put a Texas Heat in mine, and the frame just barely touched the choke (that teensy little transformer thingy - or maybe it's the reverb tranny?)
Anywho, I had to rotate the speaker on the baffle so that the tranny matched up with one of the open areas of the speaker frame. Some speakers are just a wee bit deeper than others, so it's another dang thing to look out for.

C-REX is in.

"you complete me" LOL

Out of the box, not broken in, I have to say, this is one of only two speakers I've owned that sounded GREAT out of the box. The other being the Canis Major... basically an alnico version of the C-Rex.

The C-Rex has sorted a few SMALL issues I had with the Lightning Bolt... and I mean SMALL. I didn't even change the amp's EQ when I switched from the LB to the CR... that should tell you how good the LB really is. But the LB was a TAD loose in the bass at higher/gigging volumes, and the trebles got a TAD spikey at volume, and it was also a TAD mushy/sloppy/blurred (lacked a LITTLE clarity). The C-rex fixed ALL that.

But it's a subtle difference. I liked the stock speaker alot, and could have been very happy "living with it"... but the C-Rex is just "that one more".... if the LB is a 10, the C-rex is an 11. "But.....the C-Rex goes to 11".......

Where the LB was very good, the CR is DAMN GOOD. And it's brand new, not even broken in yet... if it's anything like the Canis Major was, it'll only get better (actually, I probably would have put a Canis Major in the amp, but the alnico magnet is too big to fit)

Hi guys - new guy here...

I'm concerned about losing the pretty "chime" I get from my Tele into my DRRI if I was to install the Rex. This Jensen is pretty broken in, but it's still a bit too ice-picky. (I have had the Fritz Mod done, BTW). Chime, yes. Ice picky, no.

What I'm seeing here is all positive stuff...thanks for any comments.

Not to hijack, but I'm also looking at the Swamp Thang.

My tele is still plenty twangy when running though the Cannabis Rex... no experience with the Swamp Thing but I like all their speakers (all the ones I've used anyway). I've got a custom cab with two Commonwealths loaded in a custom cab... backbreaking but killer tone. I've got one of each of the two neodymium speakers in my TRRI. They lightened it up and sound awesome! Best of all... it lightened up my Twin a bunch. :D

wl prob do this soon, I've read nothing but GREAT user reviews regard the switch/2 questions-is the 'Rex at least as efficient as the stock Jensen?-I don't want any loss of volume or power.....also, will I need to remove anything other than the black tolex rear panel to do the switch?.....wl check back later, thx all & have a safe & fun New Year!

The C-Rex will cut way down on the Fender sparkle, and boost the bass quite a bit. I would say if you can handle that, it is a great choice. I would do it myself if I had a DRRI, & in a heartbeat too........ No need for a big decision there if it was my amp......

The trebles stay there but there is a lack of harshness and a boost of fat juicy lower notes. A little bit of EQ tweaking and there is some tone nirvana awaiting for you. (at least for my taste in tone)

I've had my DRRI since 2009 and gigged it alot. Now, the Jensen CK is well broken in and sounds good. Well, I put the C. rex in and noticed the Jensen, broken in, sounds close to the C.rex, with the C.rex adding a little more bass and louder. The Jensen Ck took longer than I expected to break in, but the C.rex isn't broke in yet. Another thing to note is that the Jensen CK after being broke in had a muddy bass sound when turned up, not as defined as when playing lower volumes. So, I'd recommend the speaker change to the C. rex. There is not a downside.

While I agree the C-Rex will round off the trebles, the easy fix for that is to turn up the treble. Unless your'e already running it at 8 or above (in which case you're taking the tops of people's heads off in the front row lol)

I put the C-rex in my SS22, who's normal channel is VERY similar to the DRRI, and it has plenty of Fender sparkle, and my treble is still only at 4-5.

It is good to see so much CRex love here. Many ears will benefit from this. :D

Playing through the Rex in my HRD III last night was tonal bliss.

I am still almost giddy at how good it sounds.
(I think the HRD may be contributing. It isn't vintage but, these III series have some real mojo.)

I just ordered a Rex for my DRRI that I just did the Weber mod on. Sounds like people like them in this amp. I had one in a Tweed Deluxe I built (Trinity) and thought it sounded great even though a Tweed is darker to begin with. Sounded great with single coils. I've always wanted to try a TT Red in my DR but can't ever seem to talk myself into the price.

I think people will like one in any amp that can fit a 12" speaker.

It's a very polite speaker too. Haven't heard it fart yet.

Maybe not using enough hot sauce.

Maybe I don't want to go deaf. :D

The Tone Tubby is a tasty speaker (I recommend the hemp-cone alnico) and I've installed a few in my clients' amps. Haven't got one of my own though......yet.
