Got a FSR in purple. I know there are mods for the original PJ. Have a friend looking into one now that I will mod if its the right modal.

I got an nos emi blue frame alnico im going to try with my III. I found some kits made by Fromel. I e-mailed him and ask if he had them for the new hot rod III. He says he does.

Im liking what im hearing for my amp now. Sounds good through the 12"speaker in my Victoria amp too. Anyone here mod their PJ III with the Fromel kit?

If so do you like it and is their much of a difference? Any answers will be great.

Apparently not enough since you seem hell-bent to waste a lot of money on snake oil.

It's a three-hundred dollar amp......period. It doesn't matter if you spend a grand or more on nebulous "upgrades" -- it's never going to sound like a Super Lead Plexi, or a Dumble, or a blackface Pro Reverb regardless of the amount lipstick you smear on it.

Congrats on the new amp!

Try breaking in the current speaker first, then try the new speaker. It sounds like you probably don't need any mods. IMO, the only useful parts of this Fromel kit are the electrolytic caps, which are a great brand, but no need to replace the caps unless they need replacing, if/when they become faulty, as they won't change the tone.

Retroverbial,

Wow,hell bent, snake oil,I ask a simple question. I dont expect it to sound like the amps you mentioned.

What gives you the idea that im hell bent? Roll your eyes thats fine. If your trying to come off as a jerk, you did a good job. Maybe I misunderstood your post. Ive added a few little smilies too.

I thought it would be fun to mess around with my cheap amp......period.

Ive had many amps over the past 30 years or so, Old Marshalls,Victoria's,blackface, silverface, old tweed fenders, even a peavey or two, ect. Its not like im ignorant about amps.

I know im new here.(maybe I could learn or even help out with some things) I could care how many posts counts I have,or how long you have been around, But if your going to give me grief,I can give it right back.

Btw,thanks shimmilou

I was told Zinky helped design the original PJ.

And John DeLorean developed the Pontiac GTO.

So what?

Not everything that Zinky touched turned into gold.

I hate to see anyone waste their money on a hopelessly inbred mongrel puppy that, regardless of the tuition costs at a canine obedience school and professional handler's fees, will never perform to expectations.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Compassion kicks azz. It is not coddley, drooly or apologetic. If someone cares enough to throw a life preserver, it is poor form to complain if it hits you in the head. Or belief system.

Not sure if you are talking about me or Retroverbia. There is a difference between complaining and taking sh** from somebody.

Someone has to be the realist in the room. Those who find little need for such triviality can simply put me on their "foe" list lest my reasoned rantings offend their delicate sensibilities. I'm sure they're more comfortable believing in unicorns and leprechauns.

Quite correct. I was acknowledging, in the affirmative, your position. Us regulars know that your presence here is a gift to those of us looking for help or an increase in our understanding of tubes amps.

I hope this newer member comes to see your value. He's lucky Bill didn't have cause to interact with him.
